I like enough of it to work with what’s there

Way more hits than misses for me.

The mechanical bull is really the only thing I’m struggling with.

I definitely went in there expecting a more high fantasy departure than what the 90s

It was very nearly a love everything for me

I agree with others that it’s mainly kitbash potential. The only units I would use with no alterations are the Bull Centaurs, and new hobgoblins. They look better than the other hobgoblins in AoS. If I hadn’t started kitbashing I would have used them. And maybe the lords/daemonsmiths.

I’m going to nab the chair on the Infernal Taurus, and maybe only get it if I fancy another Taurus (would still prefer the FW one though)

Baseline infantry/shooters I would only use with kitbashing along the lines that @CaptainBrineblood suggested in another thread. Replace shields and weapons, and most likely the hats too.

I feel like the models are like an old house that’s structurally sturdy but needs a lot of work before I wanna live in it. The stuff that’s done well is all the basics: scale armour, nice coil beards with ornamentation, the faces are generally quite decent. But I want to get rid of the angular elements of their armour and change the hats to more classic-like hats, and swap weapons/shields.

My biggest complaint is look at the Skullcracker, the iron Daemon and dreadquake

These are not even remotely in the same league as these AOS war machines.

However, I’m hopeful now that such things will come in the future, in plastic.

GW needs a better study of walrus anatomy. Clearly the tusks are upside down.

Pack your bags Walhut fans, back to your Mierce igloos. sighs

I definitely liked more than I disliked.

I see lots of people talking about it looking too techy, but I don’t nice that at all. I’m impressed by how much they leaned into the Daemonsmithery.

While the War Machines don’t capture the imposing nature of LoA or the Hellcannon, I’m happy to see that they are Daemon powered, which I thought was lacking from the LoA War Machines. And anyway, I can fix them.

The female Chaos Dwarfs are a bit of a miss for me. With this skin colour, they look like orcs.

The Bull Centaurs are probably the biggest win.

I live the shear depth of the kits; it’s quite a robust opening for a new army.

Now that I think about it more, chaos dwarfs (big hat era), then chaos dwarfs (LoA), then this.

The Chaos part of that has always been very subdued.

I guess I was expecting something along the lines of the hellcannon and kdaai, which are probably the most chaotic parts of the range that ever existed.

Still, there’s a lot of options outside GW to complement.

I’m mostly hyped GW is giving our beloved faction another spin!

I like what most people are liking: the Centaurs, the characters and the Hobgrots. I’ll be getting these kits and probably more just because these are new Chaos Dwarfs. Their new armour style doesn’t excite me too much and I would’ve liked to see the ‘demon-infused’ a little bit more clearly. I’ve seen an eye sculpted into things here or there, but simply saying the glowing orbs have demon dust in them is a wasted opportunity. They lack a bit of humor imho. The Bloodbowl had more of that.

Give me 3x the amount of demons trying to reconstitute or claw out.

Still, very happy to be here for this triumphant return.

That’s a good view from the back. I’m thinking it may be possible to expand the parts in the shot, and reduce the wheels width, to make it bulkier.

With conversion I mean.

I actually like the new Hobgrot Vandalz (or however it’s spelled)…which is pretty amazing considering how much I hate the Hobgrot Slittaz.
I might even buy a box set of these new Hobgrots, I particularly like their poses, robes and armor, and their old school caps.
As for the new chorfs…meh, no thanks…not my cup of tea.

The hobbos and the centaurs are for me the only usable pieces.
Overall is such a huge downgrade compared to FW 15 y ago.
FIFTEEN YEARS AGO and yet they de-evolved into this odd mess

Better get sculpting those hobgrotz pinky toes!

They are my favourite thing released too

More thoughts on this… hopefully we should at some point also see some Black Library novels

For me i love the new designs but i prefer the old fleshy mounts, its ok if the brazen bull mount is only for thats character. Also the colour scheme is meh, rather bronze brestplate and regular fire or lapris blue (mesopotamians loved their lapis)
The mech is interested too, would like it if the cannons were mounted like chaos knights but is not a deal breaker.
I miss the Fyreglavies the most as one of the things that sold me on them orgionally they are always special.
The better bring back the Lamassu, too iconic not too.

But i agree the gobbos are the stars.

I don’t think that the range is very similar to FW era Azgorh. That’s interesting to me because I think there’s space for SDS to now claim that their old range is visually distinct enough to justify remastering it in plastic and putting it in TOW.

I’m not saying it’s likely or imminent, but the design space is there.

I was (surprisingly) quite happy with everything. I will definitely begin grabbing it all when stuff comes out.

As a number have pointed out, the fully mechanical Taurus is a bit strange, but works well with the lore.

I love that they essentially grind up demons in their machines to use as fuel. In 40K the demons are simply bound to the machines they power. They aren’t into it, but they are essentially just spoiled children forced to do their chores, always looking to escape. The AoS demons quite literally have something to fear, as their whole being will be obliterated, just to make a spear more powerful. I love that aspect of it, as chaos is sort of always looked at as something inevitable that needs to be slowed, but is always unstoppable. I think it’s great that the gods of chaos are literally losing demons to these machines. Khorne doesn’t care where the blood comes from, but does he care what happens to his demonic energy? 40K has only begun scratching the surface of this kind of thing, teasing that there are tyrannids that are able to ingest and absorb demonic energy, and are slowly starting to break down the citrix maledictum.

Ha!
Yes!
you know my mentality on this, because when I heard that GW will be releasing a new Chaos Dwarf army, my VERY first thought was if the hobgrots needed me to sculpt the missing toes

Hmmm…and speaking of missing toes…
Did anyone else notice that the new chaos dwarfs don’t really seem to have a nose?
And some of them don’t have beards!
No big noses, no beards…GW sacrilege!
