I think if you wanna go big with them, you ought to go for a unit of 20 with big red raggedy flag. 50/50 great weapons and additional hand weapons. Big Boss in there with some kind of mundane weapon.
I used 14 with big boss in a recent tournament and they did ok. Not too big to be unwieldy, not too small to pop to small arms fire (well, except one battle, but my opponent rolled 10 twice on grape shot 
)
