I was always superb at guessing ranges, no idea why…
Newcromunda is no pre-measuring fwiw.
I totally defer to your knowledge on that one as I’ve only really played late and post Fantasy. From my narrow view, fair fights are vanishingly rare and it’s relatively easy to predict the balance of odds from deployment onwards. So for me failed charges act as a potential balance to that, but it’s possible that the issue here is that once battle is joined, combat resolution rarely shocks me. On the other hand, maybe that’s a good thing.
I’m interested to hear what you think the best mechs to import would be, putting charges to one side? I know so little about other systems.
Albeit that same policy brought you “your move distance is Triangle”
We’ve talked a bit about activation mechanics on the discord and I think that would be the easiest way to shake up the game without losing it’s identity.
I think the challenge with flat alternating activations is that it gives horde armies a distinct advantage. They are able to activate a lot of chaff to stall and force the other army to take risks or play on the defensive. This means your elite armies need to be even more elite.
Many skirmish games use an activation pool in which units can be activated multiple times but that could be difficult to transfer into a massed battle system. Ultimately though I think some sort of “action economy” should be brought in where selecting how, when, and if units activate plays an important part of the game. Perhaps tie activations or activation abilities to characters/champions or something. I don’t necessarily think they will do this, I’m guessing at least 1st edition will play it pretty safe, but it could happen.
Given they’ve started ramping up talk about TOW lately I’ve restarted work on my edition comparison so once that’s done I plan to do a larger write-up about what I’d like to see plus some predictions. It’s eating up my already limited painting time but I really want to get it finished before we hear too much haha
I think it will be “remix only” in terms of what they actually do so that writeup would be amazing!
I’m working on something for model ranges too. Effortposting ftw
Someone found this reddit FAQ summary,
https://www.reddit.com/r/WarhammerFantasy/comments/133tpix/the_old_world_qa_info/
which confirms “index” rules for CDs, but hints at an overall very slow development tempo for new factions (as did today’s previews).
A bit of confusion over “no starter set”. There will possibly be a boxed set like Horus Heresy, they don’t consider that to be a starter set, but they haven’t confirmed a boxed set either.
But rules for CDs is good, even if no new models for a long time.
Great! Models shouldn’t be an issue, we can wait… As long as we are in the game at least!
This forum has produced more chaos dwarf models than gw ever did… we’ll survive…
People on FB morning saying we may only get updates in this game every six months
I really really hope so
Codex creep and breakneck speed releases killed 40k and AoS for me
Slow is good!
Given the low level of support that this game seems to have, I expect that it will be GW’s attempt to keep control of this corner of the market without doing much. It will be played just because it is the only rank-and-file game that the world’s largest miniatures gaming company currently produces, not because it is the best, so as long as it isn’t terrible it will have a level of popularity.
With such a slow roll out of new rules, this would mean that our army rules will be in the same boat as most other armies for a lot longer time. A bit of stability away from the constant power shift caused by army books and new editions - one of the reasons people have gone back to playing 6th edition.
Im just wondering if i will die of old age before i see it…
They only announced it two 40k editions ago.
@cornixt hahaha that’s mental
Question is, is that a damning indictment of how slow this game’s development is, or how fast 40k’s turnover is?
We should shift into a new frame of mind:
This is about gettuing legitimate purchases of old minis we miss back, particularly in plastic.
For isolated aspiring gamers it could also be about having a local scene to meet fantasy players.
And I’m sure we will look at New Ravening Hordes and do our best with it.
But I’m not rebasing a single mini.
Bowlth
@chitzkoi rebasing is too large of a project for me and cuts me off for backwards compatibility
The exception being new projects that I may want for old world. I’m rebasing my big hats from aos to old world bases for this reason (bear in mind I still have a large realm of chaos chorf army on 20s so I’m backwards compatible in that way)
I’ll simply own two sets of movement trays for both games and then I’m laughing
Also I’ll be playing WoE
And yes @chitzkoi - a ravening hordes list for us is a win . We will push it to its absolute limit with creativity and conversion and we will create fan lists / add ons etc. because we are CDO and this is our lifeblood!
