m3lvin:

Nope tjub, my intention was actually to post pictures of the progress on the entry,

since I thought it was ok as long as it wasn’t painted.

but apparently thats not the case.

It’s quite a mood-killer, since half of the fun going into such a big project is to frequently

update here and get feedback and opinions from you guys.

It feels wierd that I cannot update in my progress with what I’m currently working on

(and isn’t that what keeping a blog is all about?)

Anyhow, If im not allowed to post any pics of my entry (which I’ll probably spend all of my time on),

this blog is gonna be more or less dead the coming month, until the GH voting is over,

and that just feels sad.

my intention was not to brag, give commercial for my entry, or piss someone off,

I just want to contribute with material to the site.

I hope I didn’t offend anyone.

In my veiw, It’s the painjob that gets judged in the golden hat,

not the converted model. but this competitions theme sure makes judging more complicated.

I’ll guess we just have to see in the beginning of november,

If i completed the model, …or not.

Bazil:

You gave everyone a sneak peak and got their interests peaked so that is important as well, without giving too much away.

Do not worry, I do not think anybody is offended. I'm pretty sure nobody believes you wanted to have an unfair advantage :)
I do not know what to say about your blog, but I do understand you.... why do not you ask an administrator?
I feel like they should be in charge for this kind of stuff and tell us what to do ;)

About painting and modellin.... this is an huge issue! We had a small chat about this topic in GHX thread as well......

m3lvin:

I don’t know,… asking the admins for special permission to post the pictures just feel lame.

I don’t want to be treated any different.

to quote from the original message from the GH entry rules:

" To celebrate this being the 10th your task is to create something CD related that you have not shown as a painted model on CDO before.  I know some of us have shown models we have created that have yet to be painted, so we’ll leave this open for those (a great reason to get the paintbrush out). "

This means that there probably will be many people that enter models they’ve shown earlier on the site.

The owner just has to mention he will be painting that certain model, and you could be sure to find many w.i.p pics in his blog or at some other place on this site.

Even if the person keeps it a secret of which model he will enter, you can search after more pics of the entered model when the voting thread has started.

So I have a hard time to belive this talk about: “people only allowed to post 4 pics so everyone gets the same advantage”, cause you could easily find more w.i.p pictures of others models which would inspire you to vote for them.

Unless it’s only painted pics (the 4 they are referring to), and if that’s the case,

I’m doing nothing wrong posting my w.i.p’s.

I know I wont be the only one with progress pictures of my entry.

Imagine the scenario were I didn’t mention (or just didn’t thought of) the lammasu as an entry in my progress post, and started to post a huge progress thread and got thousands of viewers who admired It.

If I then, one week before the deadline on Golden Hat -X read the rules (quote) :

"I know some of us have shown models we have created that have yet to be painted, so we’ll leave this open for those (a great reason to get the paintbrush out).

and thougth ; hey! I might paint my lammasu up and enter the competiton!

That would have meant that I’d done everything “rule legal”, but still got 500 progress pics, a big reputation, and a HUUUUGE advantage in the competition.

does that sound like fair game? don’t think so.

This is just messed up, the wide theme and lack of rules leads to difficult scenarios.

I have to PM some of the admins about showing w.i.p pics.

the only solution would be either;

that there would be no w.i.p’s allowed at all (which is pretty impossible because there are many w.i.p pics on the site already posted by people)

or that w.i.p pictures become allowed.

What does other people think?

Grimstonefire:

The only photos that can be judged are the 4 you submit.  That has always been the same.

If people mention in the voting thread ‘look here for all the WIP shots’, we would just remind everyone that only the 4 shots count for judging.  That’s why there is a limit.

WIP shots mean nothing really, as this is only a contest for painted models.  You could have 10,0000 awesome WIP shots, but if the paintjob is bad it will not do well. ;)  Therefore WIP shots are not normally used out of your 4, the staff are flexible within reason on people replacing photos if you ask to because the models are not painted.  But it would save time and effort just to make them painted model shots.  If you do use one, two or three of your 4 on this then you only lose shots of your painting.  The finished model is the thing being judged, not how it was made.

We have not had any real issues in the past with the semi anonymous aspect of the voting, normally people can guess who made some of them.

The staff are NOT rules lawyers, we try to keep this entertaining and flexible.  We would not disqualify entries because they had been shown unpainted before in a normal Golden Hat.  If they had been shown painted before, but by a member who has just joined etc then we would be flexible.  It would be a real shame to disqualify anyone’s entry really, so we would try hard not to.

Normally we suggest that people shouldn’t show their models before the contest, because it is supposed to be anonymous and you diminish the WOW factor.  It would not be disqualified or anything, but it’s not really ideal.

We made an exception here that people could paint something they had shown previously, but I must admit I hadn’t counted on someone actually doing a WIP thread of their entry as they made it. I.e. I was thinking more about something someone made a while back and hasn’t got round to painting.  My bad, I should have phrased that a bit better (I would have only suggested people didn’t do it anyway).

Hope that answers the question?

Borador:

Well, you can still always post all the WIP shots afterwards ;D It looks real promising and your other models look real nice. like the idea of the beard armor and also really like the hero character!

Keep it up mate

:cheers:hat off

m3lvin:

Grim, thank you for the quick reply. :hat off

This is obviously something the competition havent encountered before,

so I can understand if there aren’t any rules concerning this.

by reading the text above I get the feeling that

"It’s ok to continue posting the pics, because there’s really no rule that forbidds me.

BUT if I do, I would get mean looks by many people on the forum, because I’m playing BS and exploit the pretty unfair situation."

And even though that’s not my intention, people would still think so and be annoyed, so I better not even start…

I just hopes no one else takes the initiative and plays “unfair”.

It’s bad I didn’t know about this before I posted my Lammasu,

cause now the “WOW” factor is pretty much ruined anyways :expressionless:

hopefully I managed to atleast make some of you nervous :hat off

I really have to outdo myself to get that wow factor back…

and It will all happen in the shadows…

muahahahaaaa…

:hashut

/melv

Ogrob:

You hardly ruined the wow-factor with the early progress shots, more like whet the appetite.

I’m definitly excited to see the end result.

And I don’t really see the issue with WIP pictures, but if that’s the way it is, I will accept it as well.

It’s probably a good thing that the discussion was brought up and taken care of.

Bazil:

ya there shouldnt be a problem with WIP shots as long as you have a Spoiler alert or something for people who might not want to see your GHX entry. I mean you can be the best sculptor in the world, and not paint very good and it wont matter. So as long as you dont show painted pics there should be no problems imho.

Grimstonefire:

Ogrob says it all, it’s way too early to have lost the wow factor as it’s only a few wires.

Of course knowing your skills I guess we all better try just that little bit harder now…

Hrothgar Goldgreed:

Hmm, that’s some tough competition. :frowning:

Awesome drawings, the Lammasu’s going to be great if it’s only a little alike the sketch.

m3lvin:

Well, this is not a much of an update,

I just have to tell that I entered A campaign latley, and I played my first game (with CDs) yesterday!

wohoo!
:cheers

It’s a pretty small campaign, only 500pts armies, and we’re using the mighty empires as a base, with some special rules.

This is my 500pts list that I’m using:

* Chaos dwarf hero

hand weapon, heavy armour, enchanted shield.  74 pts

* 10 Chaos dwarfs

hand weapon, heavy armour, shield.    90 pts

* 10 Chaos dwarfs

hand weapon, great weapon, heavy armour, shield   110 pts

* 5 Bull centaurs

hand weapon, great weapon, heavy armour, shield   105 pts

* Hobgoblin bolt thrower      30 pts

* Hobgoblin bolt thrower      30 pts

* Hobgoblin bolt thrower      30 pts

* Hobgoblin bolt thrower      30 pts  (do I smell cheese? :D)

Total: 499 pts

Battle report:

For the first match In the campaign I challanged a vampire counts player, who has played warhammer for about as long time as me.

He had an army heavy themed on skeletons.

two blocks with 15 and 16 skeleton, one of them led by a vampire, and a unit of 5 dire wolves.

He had also bought a special ability so he could raise skeletons in higher quantities than normal.

Having never played against VC before, this was indeed an interesting match. after deployment, he got the first turn, and was slowly walking towards me.

Being a former WoC player, my first tactic was to be offensive.

But when I remebered that I actually played with dwarfs, I thought a defensive style of play would be much more efficiant, especially in this game.

I took advantage of the VC slow movement rate, and tried to “soften them up” with my 4 bolt throwers :h .

Too bad he still raised them back the next turn, and even if I managed to dispell some of his spells, he still got more skeletons in the 4th turn then when we started!

When It got to my 4th turn it was time for some action. my Bull centaurs was the only unit within charge range, and if I didn’t charge, he would charge the next turn.

I declared a charge on the unit containing the vampire, and moved my other unit with hand weapon CDs (containing my hero)  on the left flank of the BCs, so that I could prevent them being flanked by 20 more skeletons :o

My two Bolt throwers on the right flank was already pretty much wiped out from his 4th turn, being charged by angry dire wolves.

The other two had no more line of sight.

By getting to charge with my BCs, I could strike first with my great weapons! Muahaha!

I dedicated 4 attacks (from 2 bulls) on the vampire, and wounded 3, SMACK! the vampire was no more

You should have seen the face on my opponent!

I managed to kill some skeletons aswell, and won the combat.

Never having played against VC before, I thought they should break and flee, but no. They just stood still, and lost another skeleton.

Another thing I didn’t know about VC, (and wich was a good thing) Is that they crumbles when their leader dies! yay!

This redused his direwolves to 1, and the skeleton unit in combat with my BC to about 10, and the other to about 15.

on his turn 5, he charged my hero and it’s companions with his 15 skeletons. we both fought well, and I ended up loosing the combat with 1 piont. being outnumbered by a fearcausing unit, I could only succed on a double roll of 1 :~. Ofcourse, they fled, my two hobgoblin BT fled, and ofcourse, he cought up with me, dammit…

Any way, on the following turns he continued to crumble, and I got my revenge on the 15 (now 12) skeletons that killed my hero, by charging them with my CDs with great weapons.

I ended up by getting about 160 victory points more, which gave me a solid victory, Hurray for me! :cheers

It was a very fun match to paly, and I cant wait 'til next, when my CDs will face a new exciting challange.

All hail to the mighty HASHUT!

tjub:

Its reallt satisfying when you have enough models to start playing with them, great work!

Four balistas in a 500pts army seems really heavy, I usually only have two of them in a 2000pts game. But I guess it depends on what kinda oponent you play against, we tend to focus more on the fun stuff in the lists for friendly games.

…anyway, good luck with the campain!

m3lvin:

yeah, I can agree that it’s pretty cheesy having 4 BTs in a 500 points game.

I had a hard time choosing an army list, first I thought of using a death rocket,

but I think it’s too risky in such small games, and you could almost get 3 BTs for the same price.

Since I totally lack of magic power, I felt I really needed some ranged firepower.

Anyways it’s obvious that the dice-gods (who doesn’t belive in them?) hates me a little for doing so, The more bolt throwers I have, the more I seem to miss. 1st round I didn’t hit with any of them :stuck_out_tongue:

m3lvin:

A mini-update once more!

Hobgoblin heroes can have heavy armour.

In the main rulebook, heavy armour is described as a full plate armour.

A hobgoblin in full plate armour!!! how f-ing cool isn’t that?!!?

I’m amazed that I havn’t seen anyone on this site doing it before, the plain idea is so cool. super hard hobgoblin WoC style.

I came across the idea when I started working on my bolt thrower crew, here are some pics:

The front chainmail between his legs got pretty f-ed up, mostly because it always got bented when I tried to dot the holes.

I’ll have to redo it tomorrow, with a new layer on top of it.

Hopefully it’ll get better, because I now have a hard surface behind that supports better.

:cheers

Kera foehunter:

Thanks so much for showing us all your cool wips

that is a cool idea thank you so much

* kera gives a hug to M3lvin *

astragoth:

is the hero paited now, and if: where can i find pictures!? it is amazing!

Ogrob:

Looking good! Now you gave me an idea…

Loki:

Great start cant wait to see how he turns out

GRNDL:

Its definitely a great start! And I love the idea of using a sprue as an armature! My only constructive comment at this point is that perhaps the plates should be overlapped a little, so one is riding over the other. Looking forward to see more - there’s not a lot of hobbo love around here, IMO.
