[Archive] Bloodbeards Chaos Dwarf Blog

Bloodbeard:

A good use of those fugly chaos warriors. You have certainly approved on them.

gIL^
Thanks a lot gIL.
Interesting conversion.. I might have a try at making old school 3rd edition chaos dwarfs with those old chaos warriors, as i have a bunch of them..

Sticklander
Never seen those 3rd ed CDs in real life. Won't the chaos warriors be way to large? Please share your ideaa, having a hard time seeing it.

Basecoat
Had some extra black paint after some other work, so I used it to basecoat the test miniature. It really makes a difference to any chopped-glued-converted-greenstuffed miniature.

Fuggit Khan:

This guy is looking very cool…and naturally I love the Big Hat!

Is he still on a 20mm base?

Bloodbeard:

Fuggit Khan
Yep, he's on a 20mm base. So lining these guys up in nice ranks is gonna be hard. But I have some different plans for how to do it. Some clever unitfillers and rockformations should help with this.

Update 13: Bull Centaurs - work in progress
Bull Centaurs
I've fielded my bale taurus as a destroyer in my last four battles. So for some support I put together some bull centaurs. This is WIP and they are only put together with adhesive gum - so they could be used in a game quickly.

Made from mantic ogres and chaos knight horses. I think the size fits together well - and mantic ogres aren't as fat as the GW ones.

Edit: Kamphre's done something similar on his blog. I wanted to do something different, but the GW ogres was simply too fat and big for the horses. Still sending some credit Kamphres way:

I plan on using black orc heads - the mantic ones are too flat and small.

Of cause they'll get some green stuff curly beards, long braids on the back. Chaos DWarfs symbols on the gut plates and a lot of GS work on the horse body.

Unitfiller
Needed some more guys for my last battle. So I put together an idea for a unirfiller. Will make another beast handler for the fianl version, this is just to get an idea for the project.

The painting situation
I'm painting up every single finished model at the same time. Getting done with one colout at a time. You can see the project in the back of the pictures. Boring work - but it's the way to get on with this army project in a good way.

Battles
I've played four games over christmas. Worte a battle report of one of the games here: Feel free to leave a comment.

Also played two games against dwarfs the 26th. I won both of them. 1750 points. Might write a battle report at some point - if it has any interest. Got some more pictures this time.

The first battle was brutal. I had three turns - my opponent only had two. That was all it took for him to lose.

The other game ran for 6 turns: He only had an organ left in the end.

That leaves 2013 with the following statistics for my Dawi Zharr:
Won: 7. Draw: 1. Lost: 1. Two of those were multiplayer Triumph and Treachery games. Legions of Asgorh is indeed a strong army list.

Final note
There is so much life on this forum, that post often go missing. So here is a link for my review of the Triumph and Treachery expansion for warhammer:

Abecedar:

Do so looove the hellcannon … and the rest that you’ve done to date.

But I was expecting them to be painted/coloured as “Blood”-Beards

Kamphre:

Hey, I recognize this bull centaurs!

I’ll keep the ventral shield idea for mine.

How many are you doing ? Are you going to make the Tauruk more special ?

Fuggit Khan:

I actually like your Bull Centaurs more than the FW models…your take on them has more “life” and “individuality” to them (the FW models are nice, but just look a bit “life-less” to be , a bit too stoic). Beautifully done…longing to see them all painted up :hat off

Bloodbeard:

Abecedar
Bloodbeards been my gaming name for many years. Had a pretty long red beard IRL at the time and it's been following me.
So had no plan for bloodbeards in the army. But I'm thinking of giving my high prophet on taurus a dark black/red bloodbeard.

Kamphre
Plese do. The gutplates work pretty well I think.

I'll be making 6 Bull Centaurs, incl. full command and Taur'ruk.

Looking forward to hearing your response on the finished models. This is the second time you praise my work as "better than Forgeworld".
But I don't agree. The FW bull centaurs are really awesome and (besides the taur'ruk) pretty full with life IMO.

Still slaves are heading your way Fuggit.

Update 14 - K'daii Fireborn and Taur'ruk
Still no new painting process to show off (I'm keeping some of the Dawi Zhar for the Brush Slave League)

Fireborn
But I started working on a K'daii Fireborn. Unit will have six models in it.

I have two more of the old talisman/warhammer quest minotaurs to use. And I've got two Reaper Bones Minotaurs on the way and I was lucky and won a dirt cheap Doombull on ebay.

The idea for my K'daii Fireborns is minotaur djinns. I'll green stuff flames between all the cut up sprue. That's there for structural stability and for saving grenn stuff.

Need to come up with some kind of weapon for him. Any ideas?

Taur'ruk
I was thinking of different ways to make my Taur'ruk more baddass than the regular BCs. Thinking in the lines of a juggernaut with a doom bull torso - but I didn't want to use that kind of money.

Found an old space ork from a 40k core set. He has a nice big power klaw - that'll "hero up" the Taur'ruk just fine.

Yodrin:

Cool fireborn idea, haven’t seen that before:). I think they deserve a big weapon, some kind of two handed thing wield in one hand??.. Or maybe some chains or flail/morning star,?

Traxo:

Like Yodrin, i really like your Fireborn idea! The sprue should look really cool if painted like som dark crystal or rock spikes  Regarding their weapons, i think you should keep them unarmed… That way they look more wild and feral…

Oh, and the Power Klaw was a great idea for your Tauruk!

-Jon

Kyte:

the fireborn are awesome! I would use superglue-soaked toilet paper for the flames, as it’s both cheaper and looks better than greenstuff flames though.

Xx9millxX:

Awesome fire born … Honesty probably the coolest conversions I’ve seen …

They kinda remind of like a genie … So maybe like a huge scimatar … Or a big one handed axe …

Just my opinion

Awesome work though

Admiral:

Great Fireborn idea. It’ll look nasty once painted!

Bloodbeard:

Kyte
Will have to figure out how that works. Any links or pictures? Given how often I glue my fingers together - this seems a bit like a fools errand.
Nice words.

Everybody
Thanks for all the very kind words and comments.

K'daii Fireborn - now with weapons
Okay, so I really didn't want to make another update allready. But I'm so pleased with the brutality of this fireborn, that I had to show him off - before I risk drowning him in miliput.

This is how far I got yesterday - tonight I'm only allowed to paint grunts.

But I have a new deadline: By week 8 there is gonna be a weekend filled with games. By that time I'll try to have 6 BCs, 6 fireborn and a destroyer ready for battle (that's allmost finished and properbly no paint).

Weapons made som chaos warrior shields and skaven spears. I made the shield thinner and sharpened the edges to make it blade like. Also cut the top of the spear sharp and added some bolt from plastik rod.

Added some bolts to the gloves - to make them more brutal. The weapons (they where called something cool in Diablo 2 - what was that?) are tied to the arms with chains.

The shoulderpads are made from dwarf warrior shields with a dwarf buckler on top - and a large spike to evil-up the fireborn. They are tied to the demon with chains.

The guy is really leaning (if you can lean with a body of flames?!) forward, and since he's so tall it'll look like he's about to eat most enemies. Even ogres.

The chains are from some cheap old necklace. But I ordered different kinds of chains from a hobby store.

Next up is small flames between his shoulders and flames amongst the sprue. And I'm thinkng of letting some flames dangle from his gutplate. That's from the mantic ogres I bought for the BC (they'll have great weapons).

Admiral:

It looks even better now. The weapons might be called katar or punch daggers.

Yodrin:

Great choice of weapons, and a nice touch with the chains;)

Sticklander:

Really interesting conversions! Will be great to see painted up!

Glimpse the Void:

I really like the Great hat/axe bro. Any progress on the paint and/or the unit? I’d really love to see that thing brought to life. Also, any luck on your irondemon conversion?

Bloodbeard:

Admiral
Thanks - katars was the name I was llooking for.
Interesting! Very interesting! I haven't seen anything similar before and it's great. Go on, please!

Herby
I will. Just got the rest om my minotaurs in through the door.
Great choice of weapons, and a nice touch with the chains;)

Yodrin
Thinking of letting some chains hang out from the flames too.
Really interesting conversions! Will be great to see painted up!

Sticklander
Thank you. Working on the paint.
I really like the Great hat/axe bro.  Any progress on the paint and/or the unit?  I'd really love to see that thing brought to life.  Also, any luck on your irondemon conversion?

Glimpse the Void
The unit is somewhere down the line. Behind magmacannon, destroyer, fireborn and bull centaurs. ... the iron demon is after that.

Painting the grunts - base colours done!
Basically it was my intention to keep pictures of my painting process secret and to use them in the Brush Slave League.

But in the end it's more important for me to make an update on the blog.

The guys and myself has made a club. Every month we make a pledge of what we'll paint - fail at the deadline and you owe a case of beer to the club.

It's awesome and a way to finish up some miniatuers. My pledge this month is finishing all the minis currently in my army. ... so that 26 in this month.

Allmost finish with the base colours, just need some iron and bronze.

I'm painting one colour at a time on every single mini - then a new colour. Boring task - but I do have a soft dog lying on my feet and Futurama on the screen.

Thanks for all your comments. Constructive criticism is much appreciated. There's so much stuff to be learned in this forum.

Yodrin:

Very nice update!! Your command group, heros and lords looks awesome so far. And your banners, I love your banners!!!

Sticklander:

Definitely looking forward to seeing them highlighted and generally tidied up!

And I especially like the look of the steamguard as it is!

Great way to make sure you complete your pledges! Beer is almost as expensive as our hobby!
