Bloodbeard:

That is one of the best Chaos miniatures i have ever seen. I try not to use the word epic - ever.

But this model is epic.

Khaas:

Today I set up the light box and broke out the Nikkon, I’ve been doing some reading and wanted to see if I could get some decent shots. Far from perfect, but these definitely show more detail than the iPhone pics do. I’ll continue fiddling and see if I can get this figured out to my satisfaction. For now, enjoy some pics of the army I’ve prepared for tournament season.

Amazing work Khaas!

Sticklander:

Brilliant stuff!

That Stonehorn conversion is fantastic!

Also, you may have covered it earlier, but how do you achieve that snow effect?

Yodrin:

I am a fan, and you know it;), brilliant!!

bas_2312:

Very cool! What models are you using for the Warhounds?

Khaas:

Tried to be productive today, however there is a slight problem. The airbrush and compressor are both about to become useless hunks of metal, this is unfortunate but not completely surprising. Unfortunately I’ve had to buy new tires and a battery for my car, so the cash I was going to spend on the hobby is now gone. So, my options are somewhat limited at the moment.

I’ve decided that I’m going to focus on the Chaos Dwarfs, they require the least attention to finish so I stand a serious question of knocking them out before the compressor and brush go. So, I gave the Iron Daemon a bath and started assembling it and the remaining Infernal Guard. I’ve got 10 with HW/Shd to paint and 9 with Fireglaives to paint. As well as the crew for the Magma Cannons and Deathshrieker Catapults. I’ve also got the remaining hero level casters to paint, but they’re nearly finished already.

So, here’s some pics of the current progress:

Standard Bearer for the IG w HW/Shd

Standard Bearer for the IG w Fireglaives

I decided to convert a standard bearer rather than buy another command unit, I actually like the way he turned out. Let me know what you think, more coming soon…

Khaas:

Today I made some progress on the Chaos Dwarfs, I’m focusing on the infantry right now. I bashed together some unit fillers for my Fireglaive units and put together a pair of 5x3 movement trays for the HW/Shd unit so I can easilly reform for 10 wide or 6 deep.

I also painted the two Lore of Fire Daemonsmiths that just kinda hang out in back and throw Fireballs. Here’s some pics!

The Infantry so far…

Khaas:

It’s a snow day, which means the wife is home for a few days. Which means, I didn’t get a lot of time for the hobby today, I’d rather stay warm if you catch my drift. Anyhow, I DID manage to sneak away for a few minutes and get some finishing touches on the Daemonsmiths, I wanted to highlight the faces and the horns/tusks a bit. Here’s how they turned out.

#1

#2

In addition to these, I had a rethink of my unit fillers. I do still like the Cannons, and intend to use them on my CD Display board. But, I’ve decided they’re just a bit out of place in the rank and file unit of Infernal Guard. So, I’ve opted for a sort of barricade. Both are slightly different, and mounted on Scibor bases with a soldier manning the “wall” of each. Here’s how they’ve turned out, I’m much happier with these than the previous ones.

Unit 1

Unit 2

And here’s a shot of both units together.

I’ve got some more assembly to do, several HW/Shd IG and a final one with a Fireglaive. I’ve also got a single filler for the Hw/Shd unit to work out, then the crew of the Magma Cannons and Death Shriekers, and the Iron Daemon. Then the army will be complete. I want to knock out the assembly this weekend and get back to work painting Monday, so wish me luck.

I’ve added a list for the Great Host I’m working on immediately after the Chaos Dwarfs, here’s a link to the full list:

I got some pics of finished models in the light box, here’s how it turned out:

Arcane Ruins

Soul Grinder

In case you’re wondering, we are still snowed in. Warm cuddle time has turned into argue time. So, hobby has been really low on the to do list sadly…

Yodrin:

Not a fan of the Soul Grinder model, but that one is the best one so far. It looks good!!!

Khaas:

Late last night I accepted a new commission, a friend has decided to run the Creatures of the Chaos Waste formation for Shiloh. So, I’ve gotten started today painting the Giant, spawn next then Lolbrute and Dragon Ogres. My goal is to have the whole thing finished by Christmas.

Here’s how he looks so far, should have the Giant and Spawn finished by Monday.

Khaas:

First part of the current commission is finished, client asked if I’d leave flock, etc for him so he can use the stuff he’s got for his army already. I was happy to oblige.

Client is happy, so I’m happy. Tomorrow I’ll base the Spawn and prime them, then it’s off to the shop to get a couple of games in and pick up the rest of the models for the client.

Khaas:

Another day, another mini. I assembled and painted the Slaughterbrute today, there’s a few minor touches I want to add before I call him completely finished but close enough for some pics. Spawn will be finished in the morning as well, then I’ll assemble the six Dragon Ogres. I’ll be doing some minor conversion work on one to make the Shartak more obvious. For now, enjoy some pics of Brutus…

Khaas:

Time for an update from the Creatures of the Chaos Wastes commission, at this point everything except the Dragon Ogres is finished. I started putting these together this afternoon, and I’m going a bit slower than I’d like so I can ensure everything ranks up properly. After talking to the client, I’ve opted for a two tiered approach, with the second rank being slightly elevated on pieces of bark. This means he can use these as two units of 3 or a single unit of 6 with no problems. I’m going to finish the bases as soon as I finish assembling the remaining three Dragon Ogres. Here’s how they sit right now.

As for the rest of the project, I put finishing touches on the Lolbrute and Spawn this morning. I gathered the big baddies together for a couple of group shots.

Now, back to work! The Christmas crazies are quickly approaching…

Yodrin:

Awesomeness!!!

ClawLeader:

Can i just say that you continually impress me with your work. Lovely… I wish my gaming group would attempt to paint their minis!

Khaas keep it going!

Khaas:

Thanks guys, ClawLeader I can understand both sides of the painted minis divide.

On the one hand, if you’ve got a place to play close at hand with willing participants on tap the urge is to play, play, and play some more. That doesn’t leave a lot of time for hobby. I was in this situation myself when I played 40k years and years ago, I actually worked at the local gaming shop at that point. So, painting minis wasn’t the concern. Having minis assembled so I could play games was.

I’m on the other end of the fence now, as I live an hour and a half from the nearest gaming shop and I don’t have anyone in the immediate area to play with at home. So, most of my time is spent on hobby. Which is fine, because it’s relaxing honestly and I get a feeling of accomplishment with each painted miniature.

The commission I’m working on is for a local who’s going to be attending the tournament at the end of January, the funny thing is I consider him a better painter than me. But by no means is he capable of the speed at which I paint (I got the Creatures of the Chaos Wastes box from him Saturday and I’m nearly finished painting all of it already).

That, and Matt in his own words “hates painting”. Different strokes I guess.
