Well, the GW sculpting tool wokrs pretty good IMHO and it is nice to hold in your hand. Your sculpts are col, I like the Blunderbuss, this is what a BB has to look like! Your second sculpt reminds me a little on something like THIS… prom tonight?
just kidding, pretty cool, can’t wait to see the finished one. YOu sculpt really god, especially when you say it is your first mini! :hat off
I recently bought a set of ten sculpting tools form Andy (Heresy) and several other tools before that including the GW one, but I never ever use them?
I only use an old knitting needle I once stole from the sewing kit, which my wife inherited from her grandmother.
I have used it for al my sculpts so far and wont know what to do if I ever loose it!!!
I tried to find a picture of it, apparently its called a sacknadeln in German (bag needle). Mine has a larger flatter ending than the one in the picture, nice sharp edges on the top and a perfect curve. Its about 12cm long.
Sacknadel: Eine Sacknadel ist eine sehr kräftige Nadel mit einem sehr langen Schaft und mit angewinkelter Spitze. Die Sacknadel ist auch beliebt bei Nadelbindern.
Thanks for the nice (and the not so nice) comments … Prom night, Snotling??#???@ - you really should pay a little bit more respect to Mr Aly Morrisions great concepts - best Chaos Dwarfs ever, you know. But, maybe I should add a little doll - that would go so well with that dress - don’t you think?
Nah, I think it will work find when it get those heavy chaos shoulderpads on and a big helmet.
I’ve started working on the head peice and it’s actually comming along as planed??? Rather unexpected - but that ‘sculpting tool’ of yours (sjoerdo) looks so useful for what I’m trying to do. So,
Wanted: Sacknadel
Anyone how knows the precise english term for this - and where to pick it up?
If you cant get others to do minis you like, make your own!
tjub
Excactly - now I just need to get good at it. Then I can set up my own little production run - and will have a 5000p army in no time.
The sacknadel is used for heavy cloth, like sails for example. i think your best try would either be supply for sailing shops or art/hobby shops or maybe even a shoemaker.
Yeah, I see what you mean - and I think I agree with you about pose. Arme should have been closer to the body and maybe slight more upwards. So, after the SB - I’ll try do another one.
And speaking of the Standard Bearer
Update 04-08-2010: Marauder style Standard Bearer
Have spend the last few nights doing a bit more to the standard bearer. Think I’ll show before I f**k it up doing the beard.
Desclaimer: And I do apoligize for the blury pictures My camara relly can’t do any better on these greys and browns. It makes the sculp look much more blury than it is. If someone knows what I can do (it’s a Canon Powershot S50) - besides buying a new one - please tell.
What do you think? Eyes to high up in the face? And the shield hand will be adjusted slightly - a bit to high up and to close to the body.
And a scale comparsion picture:
Maybe slightly to big - but not bigger than the skullfaced commander (who he won’t rank up to ?!@?#?! )
It seems (I repeat seems, because of bad pics) that edges are not shap enough. They have the typical “soft” effect. Remember: if you do not manage to sculpt sharp edges… you can always cut them when green/brown/grey stuff hardens
Thanks, guys. Did the beard, hair and hand this afternoon. Might try posting pictures later today - if I can find apropriated light source.
And yes, this is my 2nd sculpt ever. I’m pretty impressed myself, how it turned out.
It really is my camera that can’t pick out the detail. The are sharper than they look - but not Kev White scap (if you know what I mean) - but nealy as sharp as it’s masters (the Aly’s). Think I’ll try do a cast of it and then try sharpen it up a bit - don’t dare cuting into the grey master that much. The grey ProCreat stof is dont harden 100% and is still a bit flexiable.
