[Archive] Mantic Abyssal Dwarfs - out in February

tjub:

Oh, alot better than I though… Me like.

Thrud:

its just a shame they aren't going to be plastic really.

nitroglysarine
As far as I can tell, nobody knows if it will be metal or plastic - only suppositions.
And after all, the ones on the video preview are made of plastic, so... :)

nitroglysarine:

So there is still hope, the shot of the four in a row look like some people cast metal bits?

-could be w.i.p I guess.

The_Bear_in_the_Hat:

I can't wait for their goblins/orcs, the decapitated head in the Dwarf sprue looks menacing

nitroglysarine
I'm using those heads to make a unit of half-orcs. They're pretty good, but you can't go wrong with orcs. The trouble with men and dwarfs is that they have to look somewhat "realistic", orcs are much easier. They're very different to Warhammer orc heads; much smaller for starters.

nitroglysarine:

They are quite cool, more Neanderthal man than orc, but bigger fangs I guess.

Thrud:

Khaos/Kaos Dwarfs coming in February 2011 according to the Mantic Blog. A “whole army” is scheduled.

Isn’t it when Warhammer Forge is supposed to publish the Tamurkan book ? The Chaos Dwarfs war has just begun, just for our pleasure !

New pic by the way, blunderbusses !

nitroglysarine:

they are quite cool conversion start points.

JMR:

Hmm, just some random speculation, but if they’re presenting the Khaos Dwarfs as “a whole new army” instead of conversion kits, then it would make sense to have all the bits in plastic. (or perhaps their new resin-plastic they used for the Revenant Cavalry).

I don’t think having all the models in an army being half-metal fits in with their strategy of “big army, small price”.

I have to admit I’m starting to like the heads more, although there’s quite a few (almost half of them even?) that make no sense to me. Might be fun for random conversions though.

These guys might be cool with home-made beards…

nitroglysarine
They look slightly vampiric to me, a little like bats. I still rather like them. I'm going to use the half-orcs as a guard unit for my alter. They are a good scale for human-sized models.

WallyTWest:

Thank god for the blunderbusses… I will buy this army when it comes out.

Da Crusha:

Im pretty pleased with the way these chaos dwarfs came out. especially considering the way the dwarfs came out…

Sjoerdo:

I like them, and if the conversion parts are made in metal I may even consider buying them!

Any news on availability?

cornixt:

They are indeed metal, Mantic has said.

Where have you seen that piece of info ?

Grimstonefire:

See the first post of this thread.

Their Dark Elf sets are metal and these are the same thing, so it’s safe to assume they are also metal.

Thrud
A message from Mantic to Xander earlier today. In the message they said that they were metal upgrades for the plastic Dwarfs.

nitroglysarine:

hmmmm, not sure now, i’d prefer plastic for ease of conversions.

but tbh i’ll probably buy some anyway.

Grimstonefire:

Next week is ‘naughty dwarfs week’, they’ll be loading up loads of pics of painted Khaos Dwarfs on the blog.

nitroglysarine:

sweat, lets hope they are as cool as they look!

Da Crusha:

I can’t wait to see some of these painted. I hope they do a really good job, it always influences how I feel about the model.
