Scar:

Love that dragon!

Murkwood:

My Christmas haul & WIP Builds.

In Mantica lore, the Abyssal Dwarfs are responsible for the creation of the Ratkin for use as slaves. Inspired by this, here’s my take on Slave Cavalry. I still need to bend the tails into shape and add the Slavedrivers to the chariot (Papa Midnight’s amazing blog inspired me also).

Horde of Grotesques.

Had this before Christmas but didn’t post as I was unsure if I was going to use submit into the Golden Hat. My Supreme Iron-Caster. I tried to raise the model up a bit as the wingspan was a lot larger than expected!

Will crack on with painting soon, bought myself a mask and spray booth for priming. The weather is pretty bad.

Malorndk:

WOW that is surely an investment you made there. Great models!

The rat chariot is spectacular as well

Abecedar:

I think this is the first mention of anyone getting any XMas loot.

And I really like the new use you’ve found for the big Rats.

Pappa Midnight:

A very nice haul indeed!

Absolutely loving the Rat Chariot and the the fact it fits in with Mantica lore ( even if it didn’t it’s still a cracking idea!)

Are you intending to have an Abyssal Dwarf mounted on it with a Ratkin driver? I only ask because there a few nice skaven models with whips which would look cool on that.

Murkwood:

Honestly hadn’t thought of a Ratkin driver. Really cool idea. Any models in particular you can reccomend?

You can pick up up separate bodies from various sources that sell "Bits". Just a straight forward Clan Rat ( the ones without the shield moulded on ) as the left arm position will look ok for holding reins and a whip arm from a Chaos Hellstrider looks pretty good. Also the tail is curled up behind the mini so it doesn't interfere with anything you place behind it.
Here's a pic to get an idea.

The clan rats can be armoured/unarmoured and some are in rags which looks good as a slave.
Because of the deep "well" where the driver stands you may have to fill that in as it's meant for a large human mini so the skaven might be a little short to see out properly.
Hope that helps

Fuggit Khan:

Those giant rats are great! What a great take on the ‘slave’ idea.

Where are the models from? They look vaguely familiar, but I can’t remember?

Murkwood:

@Pappa Midnight Thank you, I’ll look into this. Rat slavedriver would be awesome.

@Fuggit Khan They are from Forge World. I’m a bit of a FW fiend.

I set out to make my lava more lava like and less “industrial slime”. Quite pleased with it now, I just need to improve my flame work, will redo thaty next.

Carcearion:

Wow that is some great progress on the basing, really well done! You have really succeeded in giving the toxic goop a nice sense of movement.

Also I’m really glad to see that four FW Bullcentaurs fit on a KoW Monstrous Cav Base, I was really concerned when I got mine they wouldn?Tt really fit (they are so huge!). Can?Tt wait to you paint them up, I think they will look great in the purple and/or black!

Pappa Midnight:

I agree, the “lava” looks like it’s flowing, rather than a static pool. Excellent stuff!

Murkwood:

Cheers guys.

I had a problem with my Drazhoath the Ashen. No matter how much I scrubbed and soaked the model I couldn’t get a large “shiny” surface to come off. I tried to prime it anyways after realising it’s not coming off… paint has flaked off. I tried to strip and scrub again before another primer, no luck. It’s ruined now. Kinda knocked my motivation, spent hours building and filling that thing, not to mention the price. I just hope Forge World will agree to replace the model. I’ve never seen so much “shiny” surface. Usually a soap bath and all is well :frowning:

I read online that it could be due to resin not curing? I don’t know about this stuff. Anyone ever had this?

On a positive note, this guy primed perfectly! (Although photo from before) Grotesque Champion. Love this model, although was disappointed that there are no actual runes sclupted into the axe. No biggie.

Also recently received my model from the Pantheon of Chaos Kickstarter last year. Thought it would make a unique Overmaster.

Malorndk:

Nooooooo

That sounds so unbelievably annoying. It would tilt my motivation way into 2018. So sorry Murk. Let us hope Forgeworld owns up to their fault

I've emailed them already. They've been great in the past, just wasn't sure how they treat this specific problem. We'll see!

Abecedar:

I have no help for you you about the resin due to little actual experience with it. there is bound to be something that they would make you pay for it.

Does your kickstarter model have a tentacle coming out the back of its right shoulder?

Pappa Midnight:

I have not experienced problems with Forge World stuff myself but I have heard of this problem before. If I remember rightly Forge World stated that on very rare occasions the releasing agent actually gets into the surface of the cast and no amount of washing/scrubbing will sort it. I’m also pretty sure they will replace it ( they have in previous times with this issue).

Jackswift:

Your conversions look amazing.  That chariot is just stunning.  Very sorry to hear about the paint issues on Draz.  A bad primer coat is the worst.  :( Every few years I get a batch that lays wrong or has spot issues due to moisture, etc.  It’s very discouraging and can completely ruin a project.  When your annoyance clears enough to try again, I would do some research on primers and look for something designed to stick to extremely slick surfaces.  There may be something out there that will work. I do hope you can find a way to get it sorted.

Threadbare:

That Pantheon of Chaos fig is pretty sweet. I really liked the stuff they did, and with the option to get all metal models. Did you get any of the other models from that kickstart?

Murkwood:

Motivation back on track. Forge World backed it and are sending me a new one! I just have to send the original back to them so they can see it for themselves. Forge World are expensive but I think it affords them some great customer service.

@Abecedar

That’s actually a tail! I thought it was pretty funny, I like it.

@Threadbare

At the time of the kickstarter I had very little money to spare for models so I opted to go for one. It was right at the time I was planning a Chaos Dwarf army so I went for him. Hopefully they add these models to their store eventually. Would love to get a few more.

Murkwood:

Another mock up photo. Gargoyle troop. This is by far the toughest multibase unit I’ve ever tried to assemble. Wings everywhere.

Really happy with the look though. Two at the front aren’t glued so I can paint the others. Thinking on colours now… not sure if to have them as a stone colour to match my basing and have green glow coming from the cracks in their faces.
