So I got my new keyboard! Its time for another update with pics!!
I decided to tackle my skullcracker. I envisoned a well used machine no longer able to dig through the big deep mines but more than able to kill troops!
I figured this monstrosity would be older and well used so I decided some heavy weathering was where its at! Its like an old used locomotive/piece of construction equipment. I am going to put this thing on a base which it presently does not have.
In addition I have trouble staying motivated with large monsters/warmachines so I try to take them on in little chunks. In this case Ive decided to do the crew separate and then to break the upper part of the machine into 4 sections. Ill end up doing the wheels, undercarriage and, base all at the same time.
Awesome, thanks guys!! I was a tad concerned about it. I had not worked this much with the pigments yet. Previously I had really only used it on the bases. I am also using a different method of applying the pigment as well. In past attempts I had used little water+ rubbing alcohol and pigment roughly a 40/60 split. This time I tried going GW wash 20%+60% water+20% pigment to get the effect. The whole area was coated firs in a mix of water, badab black and flames of war Black Smoke pigment. While that was still wet I ran a bead of water in the areas I wanted rust. To get the rust effect I mixed water, GW Fuegan Orange and Flames of War Standard Rust pigment. I took my pointiest brush and then applied a small amount of my rust mix into the bead of water. Gravity then took over and once it had dried (super thin I might add) I used that outline and brushed more rust mix directly over it. I was able to fix a couple blotchy areas and make them nicer and clean it up.
The rust is spot on! The machine looks even scarier now The red on the wheels could do with a highlight to tie in with the rest of the model though. My two cents anyway!

That, is part of the plan. I am trying to do it in sections. The wheels at this point are just base coated. I started working on the hammers and spikey bitz on Sunday. Ill do up the wheels and the base at the same time. I think it will help to make them match. I am pretty happy with how it is comming along so far! :cheers
My favorite bit is the red/green/yellow gauges…looks a lot like the air compression dials on cold war era Soviet subs (which were color coded for emergency decompression/flooding, since colors were easier to quickly identify versus numerals).
Very nice :hat off

So here is the cracker and base. What do you guys think of the base? It feels like its missing something…I plan hit this thing with a coat of Vallejo European Dust Wash. I have never used the Vallejo washes before but I am thinking 50/50 wash water? then run it through my airbrush, clear coat and then start on the crew and Astrogath.
As to Eve as near as I can tell its an almost unplayable online game. Seems like its got a lot of neat aspects to it but the UI is nearly incomprehensible and the tutorials at least with my limited experience do not seem to be able to be reset if you screw up. It also seems to be the only game I have played where the tutorial causes you to loose the starting equipment. I am on NG++++ with Darksouls with my main and just started NG++ with a melee alt. Im not opposed to a hard game I enjoy the challenge but I have to be able to comprehend it and the UI needs to make sense.
So I think I am going to beat the crap out of this thing with a hammer. I can not figure out WTF is up with these pigments! I am using flames of war pigments which I think are made by Vallejo and every GD time I clear coat them the Fup my paint. I am done with these GD FN PIECES OF S! I now have to repaint this mini I have been working on or use it as is. Trying to just repaint portions will not work/look right. Can anyone look at this and tell me WTF I am doing wrong with it? The guys I play/hobby with have not heard of pigments or tried them. I’ve tried about dozen different methods to apply them and always precisely the same result. I have used 2 different cans of sealer and it happens with both. It does not get this garbage frosted look when I do not use the pigments. When the pigments are not sealed they are fine and fully applied. The powder does not come off to the touch so it is 100% fully adheared to the mini. In this case the model had been on my table and dried for more than 24 hours. If anyone wants a “painted” like crap skull cracker Ill sell it. I cant look at this piece of crap anymore. I have no idea if I can even strip resin.
The drier it gets the more “frosted” it looks never have I had this happen before with any paint/sealer combo. The only thing I am doing different now is using Vallejo paint and Flames of war pigments. I can seal anything painted with anything and not have get this crappy frosted appearance. I am also serious about not wanting this stupid mini any longer.
