[Archive] Some interesting rumours about 8th

Grimstonefire:

For those not following these things, it seems GW staffers are able to answer any questions you have now about the 8th ed rules.  They ran some preview games yesterday in many countries.

I’ve done a big update of the rules sticky, which probably will be my last (depending on how much info people are gathering).

Neil:

I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere, but does anyone have any idea how the new rules will affect the Ravening Hordes list, as well as other ‘fringe’ armies such as DOW and Kislev. I highly doubt that they will receive any errata like the main books, so how will they stand? Will they still be playable, or do people think that the changes will be too great to allow them to work without some sort of errata?

Willmark:

Great question but unfortunately there is no way of knowing for sure until websee the rules. Perhaps it’s time for GW to finally “get off the pot” with chaos dwafs.

Thommy H:

I said it earlier, but I’m of the opinion that if the current books still “work” in a fundamental sense, Ravening Hordes will “work” too. The errata documents will probably just cover stuff like what category models now fall into (monstrous infantry, etc.) and how certain weird rules work - the Chaos Dwarf list doesn’t have a lot of that stuff.

But, I think an errata document would help, and maybe that’s something we could do as a site? In either case, I think it will be time to accept that use Ravening Hordes is essentially house rules.

Willmark:

Depends on what annoucements get made from GW and or Forgeworld. There is bound to be some QA sessions at say Gamesday. I think it’s a perfect time for me to ask.

Grimstonefire:

I am of the opinion that people will be less willing to play against the RH lists as they stands, as some of the rules would need quite a bit of work.  Officially nothing will change, as GW will not publish anything for them.

Someone will just need to produce an 8th ed pdf update (without fluff, to make it easier).  I doubt there would be many areas that would be particularly controversial.

Baggronor:

Naked Hobgoblin horde! A mere 60pts to fight in 3 ranks :) Hobgoblin-heavy lists could do well in 8th I reckon; plenty of cheap WS3 troops with CD leadership.

BCs: Fight in two ranks or one? Who would have thought the infantry/cavalry debate could get any more complicated... A gigantic unit of BCs could be the way forward :cheers

Grimstonefire:

From what I hear there will not be a lot of difference for BC either way actually.

If they are infantry they will fight in 2 ranks, but the second rank will have 1 attack.

If they are treated as cavalry they will fight in 2 ranks, but the second rank will still only have 1 attack.

BC should be able to use a GW the same way however they are classed.

The only important part for BC is what rank width they will need to be.

Wolf riders just got considerably faster, rumoured to have a free 12" move at the start.

I might have a go at putting together an updated pdf actually. I think with the changes to the magic lores, and the fact that (imo) we should have full access to the huge rulebook magic items list, CD using RH will actually play quite well.

Not really, the urls show that they are 600x400.

Patrikson:

I don’t have any rule’s but there is rumors that big starter packs ((i don’t know what to call them but they have 200 minis)) will either be greenskins vs empire, chaos vs empire or highelves vs skaven.

Kered:

I will be impressed if it’s all in full colour.

Thommy H:

The starter box is High Elves vs. Skaven. This is confirmed.

slev:

WD confirms the entire MRB is full colour.

I will be impressed if it’s all in full colour.

Link, please?

Thommy H:

Try the one in Grim’s sig. It’s been common knowledge for a while - even the contents are pretty much figured out by now.

Oh, I know the rumours about the starter-set and the (possible) content. But as far as I know, it's still rumours. Now I hear it's confirmed (whoohoo), but by whom and where?

Grimstonefire:

By loads of normally reliable people.

I’ve been asking around to try and see some pics of the models, but no luck yet. :frowning:
