Skink:

…These are the Obsidian guards i always dreamed. Count me in for 20 of these fellas. I haven’t read the thread (bed time sorry), will you sculpt a musician & standard bearer as well???

Da Crusha:

I really like the way they came out, awesome work. my favorites are the characters. how are you casting these? with plaster, Torch and Ladle?

tjub:

Awesome work there Baggronor!

Bassman:

Amazing, simply amazing.

I really admire your work here, well worth of Hashut!

I like the way they are simple. sometimes sculptors like to overdue miniatures forgetting people (even in fantasy worlds  ) do not walk around wearing pieces of jewelries but armours for protection

Scales and plates are beautifully sharpened. I’m trying to learn the use of brown stuff, it’s an amazing material.

Weapons are areally cool, not oversized as often happens. The first hammer is white hot

I would not mind about the sorcerer too simple, we can always tool with painting

Can we have rear shots, please? I’d like to see their back…

clam:

Yes, awesome work there Baggronor! Have always love you unique Chaos Dwarf design - and these fits you army so well. And I’m for one, really love the simple sorcerer design. In my conviction simple is beautiful - and he looks small enough to fit a 3rd ed army

You moulded and casted these yourself? - what casting technics/equipment have you been using? The casts turns out really well.

Baggronor:

Thanks for the comments guys

I’m using a centrifugal machine to spin cast them (my expensive toy :)) with silicone rubber moulds. Much easier to do than I expected actually.

To say that those are the very first casts is impressive that they have absolutely zero blemishes: I always thought the first run was a little shakey…
They have been cleaned up for the photos. The first run was very shakey lol, I got a bunch of Dwarfs who looked like they were half-stuck in another dimension as they all ended abruptly at the left shoulder (not enough metal) :cheers Took a while to get the hang of the spinning speed. There’s a fair bit of flash and the odd small air bubble that needs to be clipped off, but thankfully nothing major.
will you sculpt a musician & standard bearer as well???
There will be an Icon Bearer model, possibly with several different banner tops, and likely a drummer too. And plenty of guys who could be used as a champion. I’m looking at probably 2-3 new figures every 3 months (I have other work too so it has to be fairly slow-paced).
Maybe show some of your artwork and comics as well as your work in the Word of Hashut and wallpapers… What other sorts of things could you get away with? Maybe try to gather a little terrain to place the models on and if possible get some painted ones for it… I.E. Cast a few more, paint them up and have them for display and have unpainted ones for people to look at as well…
Yep, I’ve got an A3 laminated image to sit in front of me looking cool, plus fliers and so forth and will be painting some up tomorrow and Friday.
The simple design was why I thought he’d make a good Acolyte. I spent quite a while looking for basic robed Dwarfs with masks a while back to represent them.
Perhaps there would be some mileage in a multi-part sorcerer… So you could leave stuff off if you wanted. Hmmmmmmm, will think on that.

Hashut’s Blessing:

Before I respond to your post: centrifugal force doesn’t exist ^^ Never did :stuck_out_tongue: Centripetal force is the object trying to leave at straight line at a 90 degree angle to the diameter where it is touching, but centrifugal force isn’t there, lol :stuck_out_tongue: Anyhow

Well, you could always have the miscasts be statues of ancient heroes or have them as “good” dwarfs being tortured  Never throw away spares :stuck_out_tongue: Or, you could sell them at a slightly reduced price if it happens too often

2-3 models a month sounds like an enormous output to me, lol :stuck_out_tongue: Especially for one person! So, if you can do that, it would be excellent! It also means that it keeps people paying attention and not forgetting and, let’s face it, we all have real life (except maybe Willmark  )so we understand.

Why do I suggest anything? You’ve beaten me to it, lol :stuck_out_tongue: Any other plans?

Rather than making it multipart with loads of spares, maybe have the head and arms separate so that people cna glue them together in varying positions. As for spares: maybe make a small sprue of extras?

Anyhow great work really inspirational.:hat off
Good luck.

Thommy H:

HB: the term for a machine that spins a fluid very fast is “centrifuge” though. They’re used in labarotories and so on for preparing blood samples. The term “centrifugal machine” isn’t saying anything about the physical forces involved.

Hashut’s Blessing:

Kered: Very amusing comic find

Thommy H: That is all well and true and the name centrifuge probably came about because of centrifugal force, but it was later realised that it didn’t exist, so it would seem logical to not bother changing the name, espeically when few are taught that centrifugal force doesn’t exist, even if centrifugal machines do  Long story short: I never said that centrifugal machine was incorrect, meerly that the force of the same namesake doesn’t

Regardless, let’s not take away from Baggronor’s wonders, especially not because of me. (Or, if you do, have it as an add-on to an On-Topic post.)

So, how much are you planning to sell each one for? How do we go about placing orders? Do we get a discount? Do the staff get a staff discount (get it?)? lol, just kidding about the last one, but I wouldn’t object (Well, I would annoyingly, but not oo hard  )

Thommy H:

He wasn’t talking about the force though, he was talking about the machine - which is still called a centrifuge.

But no, it doesn’t matter. I was just saying. And you started it

clam:

Very interesting discussion HB - lol

And back on topic:

Hopefully you’ll let os know when you website is up - and hopefully Salute will be a success after all.

Wow! that’s hard core hobby enthusiasm  You are really serious about this miniature business. With equipment like this, have you thought about offering a casting service as well? Think, you’ll be able to find quite a few customers here

Currently looking at £4 for the Lord, £3 for the Sorcerer and £1.50 - £1.75 each for the infantry, depending on how many you buy. I'll set up some kind of deal for buying multiples.
I'm unsure about a CDO discount, I don't want to encourage spammers on here (I don't think it would be a major problem but still). I can't go much cheaper anyway, its a big undertaking. Some kind of other association, maybe with CDO competitions and so forth (Golden Hat/Artisan's prizes and limited editions would be cool). If WoH was available in shops, we could have done a free mini lol.
And staff can pay as much as everyone else :)

Hmmmm an interesting point. I'll look into that. I could maybe set up a separate section for it.
Regarding the equipment, its something I wanted for a long time; I want to make my own Samurai army for a start and I'm not sculpting every single guy (not again anyway :)).
Hopefully you'll let os know when you website is up - and hopefully Salute will be a success after all.
We shall see :) Site should be up by the weekend, I'll post it up here and in my sig.

Stunning work!

Hashut’s Blessing:

I’ll get my tiny off-topic bit out of the way first: Thommy H, quite correct  I tried to point out that it was only related by the word centrigufal, but must’ve not been overly clear. Also, you’re right, I did start it, however, I thought it best not to de-rail the thread too much and apologise for having done so as much as I did. hence me trying to end it (which was, coincidentally, because I agreed and it wasn’t relevant  ).

Baggronor: those are incredibly cheap! Are you still able to make a profit or at least break even? Excellent prices though, very affordable and uperb value.

I wasn’t entirely serious about the CDO discount and particularly since the prices are so low anyhow. Add to that the multiples discounts and the fact that we don’t want you to be losing money to sell these… Maybe have the multi-buy discounts be CDO only? That way, the guys here get a bonus for being your friends  and you will get more for selling them elsewhere, regardless of numbers! As for competition winnings or what-have-you, unless you created a mold for a single special model (whether one for GH and one for AC or just one for both) and have people win that each time, won’t it be ridiculously expensive? As you’d need a new mold for each competition, lol :stuck_out_tongue:

As I expected (and hoped, but only partially  ), but can’t blame me for trying

You really are dedicated to your sales. Last I knew, those machines cost about £3,000 brand new!

clam: that’s a really good idea! I didn’t really think that there’d be a market for that. Still, it’s one way for recouping the initial investment.

Zanko:

Awesome minis! :hat off

Very special and unique style!

You can count in me as a potential customer! :cheers

Bassman:

Yep, a casting service would be cool… I’d think about it

Well yours could be my first non GW miniature purchase

P.S. I asked for butts’ shots! Pleeeeeeeeeze

Hmm perhaps a price hike is in order :) I have no overheads or store rent to pay, unlike GW. I'll get final pricing sorted by tomorrow at any rate, won't be much different.

Jesus no, mine was much much less. Its only a little one :)

Painted versions:

Well I was thinking one fig for Artisans and one fig for GH (just the one each, not a new one each time, I'm not that nice :)). I make my own moulds so its not mega-pricey or anything. Or just a free model from my range of the winner's choice.
If you need any help with your Web Site, let me know.
Its nearly finished now, but thanks :cheers

clam:

Even more awesome with paints  I must have that Sorcerer (not that I need any - but this guy is to good).

A limited edition figure for GH and AC winners - interesting  that should be quite a motivating factor for us to enter.

Forgefire:

They are looking really good, especially the lord with his wicked looking mace! great work!
