Grimstonefire:

I can’t really do the great weapon arms until I get the casts back, as I need to test fit them. When Ed gets this up and running the turnaround should be a lot quicker. It’s worked out very slow now because he had to finalise the quantities for the plastic and redo a load of moulds.

After this it should be a lot quicker because he can spend a lot more time moulding and less time producing.

I’d like to get another parcel ready to send off to Ed end of august ideally.

@fonejaker

Yes, you’d order them off me by paypal and I’d post them. I can’t work out the prices yet unfortunately.

Skink:

Beautiful! But I really can’t wait to see them on one of your diorama unit trays:)

Another small update here, but not exactly…

A while back I sold a model to manic_miner (the member here) from 4 A Miniatures (www.fouraminiatures.com) who very kindly posted me a cast version back for free.

I guess I’m sort of pre-empting his announcement a little, but this will hopefully be a historic moment for me (actually getting a model commercially available).  I am presuming it will be available at some point.

Anyhow, here’s some pics of my cast.  I’m very impressed with the casting, hardly any mould lines at all.

I plan on keeping this unpainted for a while as I revel in actually having a cast model.

Vogon:

Awesome job there!

Still waiting with baited breath for the infantry guys. (must remember that web address when i get home)

Cheers

Vogon

manic _miner:

I am glad he arrived. The casting is top notch.I use Griffin as they have a great reputation.Really happy at being able to add this one to the range.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work around the internet Alec.

I have pinched the picture for future use too ;).

Grimstonefire:

Another ‘berserker’.  This one as I said is going middle back row.

It’s the tear in reality that the berserkers came through, just as it’s closing a bloodletter is trying to claw its way through.

What do you all think?  In terms of modelling I think it looks pretty good.  I put some ghoul arms on the back to show it’s a 360 degree gateway (as I presume a tear in reality would be…?)

I kept the painting of it red and black mainly to fit in with the army colours.  But what do people think?  Need improving? I just did the back at this stage to get some feedback.

Skink:

I won’t change anything modeling wise. However you can maybe change your palette a little bit! Something like a tear in reality (i guess) is an eye catching particular in an army (& unit). You might want to paint it in brighter and sorcerous colors like (for instance) sparkling light green! IMO of course…

Bolg:

PORTAL!!! dont forget to paint the “tear in reality” blue on one and orange on the other side d:

Admiral:

That Warp rift is an ace of a model. Personally I’d have painted it in a plethora of colours to bring out the unreal madness of the Warp. However, I think you should make the transition between black and yellow either softer or starker. Perhaps you could try some painted green “tentacles” to make the transition better, or use white to create a stronger contrast?

Grimstonefire:

Some more berserkers and the portal.

I’m fairly happy with the painting on the portal thing now.  What I’ve done is use purple as a complimentary, where the places that are red on one side are purple on the other (and vice versa).

The bloodletter came out surprisingly well actually, I had more fun painting that than I thought I would.

Brings me up to 10 painted, another 3 ready for undercoating, and another 3 needing more work.  Plus 4 not even started to bring it up to 20.

Admiral:

Really good. The portal works very well now. Reminds me a bit of the simple but effective warp rift effects in the video game Fire Warrior. Having a warp rift and Daemon walking out from it is a very suitable idea for CDs… I’ll have to do it too, now.

Borador:

Any news on the casting progress?

P.S.: new pictures will also keep us happy, I must say I am quite interested in seeing the blunderbussers.

Grimstonefire:

On the casting front Ed has been putting a lot of things on hold as he needs to focus on his day job.  I’ve pm’d him to ask for a progress update. :expressionless:

Unfortunately for my blog and for further CD sculpting it’s that time of year again where I have to focus 100% on my golden daemon entry.  Which I have been very busy with for the last couple of weeks.

I was planning to enter Ikit Claw, as my painting of it was coming out quite well.  But I’ve had a change of plan and I will be entering the white dwarf (with spilled pint) V belakor as a duel.  The base I’ve made is looking very nice, which I’ll put the pics up for in early sept.  It’s a staircase to a platform with a small bit of wall behind.

Borador:

That’s too bad, hopefully Ed replies soon!

Oh, very awesome as well! Hope you win and looking forward to the pictures!

Skink:

Oh Yeah! That’s a HUGE improvement on your portal! Well done mate! Really really like it:)

Grimstonefire:

Small update on the warriors.  Ed has made the resin masters and is currently working on the production spin mould.  So edging closer but still a while off (no idea on timing yet).

@skink

Yes, I’m very pleased with that now. I need to build 4 more berserks and paint them plus another 3. That will be the unit done then. My next unit presumably will be my own warriors when I get them back.

Ghrask Dragh:

WOOT WOOT!

A new grimstone fire blog, more exciting than having new mini’s out

And he’s only gone and got some his own casted!!! dude, let us know when you get some more news, really looking forward to that. Nice warp model and Dwarfs with iron claws… wouldn’t want to have a drink with them

Good luck with Golden Demon too :hat off

Grimstonefire:

A question for you all.

I’ve been thinking a lot of late that I was not that happy with the design I was doing for an elite troop type.  The shoulder pads didn’t work (would be a strange angle all the time) and I was trying to do a separate head with the beard sculpted on the torso, but it would mean doing an awkward twist if I wanted to do a head looking sideways.

So what I’ve been considering doing is sculpting more models exactly like my overlord model, but without the cloak.  Count him as the unit champ.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b226/GrimStonefire/Chaos%20Dwarfs/A1.jpg

I’d leave the shoulder pads/arms off, but sculpt the heads on.

Thoughts?  Would look awesome for a unit imo, but would it be too much?

I think I did the axe separate on the model above, so that would be easy to do a Hw and blunderbuss option. The other arm would be perfect for adding a shield if someone chopped the spike off the hand.

warh:

yeah, that would be a awesome unit! have to put aside some money

Baggronor:

I was trying to do a separate head with the beard sculpted on the torso, but it would mean doing an awkward twist if I wanted to do a head looking sideways.
Exactly the same issues I was having with my Royal Guard. I ended up going for one-piece minis again, mainly to save space in the moulds.
Even the FW CDs are pretty mono-pose, kinda self-defeating for multi-part minis really.

I reckon a full unit of dudes like that Lord, with multi-part arms would rock hard though :)
