Another WIP shot. I’m curious to hear feedback on the scales.
The plan is to sculpt it from the point of view of wanting it to look colourful when painted. So I’ll be sculpting loads of small gaps between the scales/ plates so that people can paint it glowing from within. If it’s for sale, which I haven’t really thought about/ investigated yet.
I’ve been trying to think of a decent name as well. Terrorbull perhaps?

I’d need a few more angles to give proper feedback. So far it reminds me a lot of the Reaper Bull. Right now, the calves of his legs seem to get lost under the bulk of the scales. Are the scales meant to be a part of his skin, or are they armour? Will his face have scales/armour as well?

Hmm, hard to say anything from that pic. I prefered the first without the scales, but since I have no idea how it will look when finished or from other angles, I cant say much.

I echo Tjub’s comment. I liked the first pic without the armour. I was imagining its skin made out of armour, and not a “real” bull wearing iron plates. Said that it still looks a bit raw at the moment…

The idea was to make him covered in scales that could be painted black or as metal, leaving some gaps between them all over where you could paint it red like it’s glowing from within.

The face I’ve been working on it a lot and it finally looks like a bull! Not sure at this point what to do next, whether to cover it in scales or not…
If I don’t I’ll need to cover it in something more like mini scales to fit into the body. Which has the advantage of keeping it looking like a bull for fairly little work. But if I go full on big scales I’ll really need to think carefully about how to do it.
The teeth will not be made of bone (requiring gums), just arising from the jaw.
Also, for future reference, horns out to the side or forwards more? Both look good imo.

The first pic of the horns looks best IMO, and I think Id prefer as much of him as possible without the scales…

For the body:
You could do a partial cover up with mini scales which have been attached to the skin with bolts? That way you can protect soft tissue area’s with little strips of scales and leave the rest uncovered!
Curious to see how this progresses.

On the bull I think I need to do some serious design work. Normally with things like this I just go wih the flow and design as I sculpt.
I’m also undecided about sculpting it with the intention of getting it cast. On the one hand it would be nice for all of you to have a mini you helped design, but on the other hand if I don’t I can do more what I have pictured in my mind (which is hardly any flesh showing ;P).
I’ve spoken to Ed over at trollforged minis about this already and he said, given it’s size, that it would have to be seriously impressive for him to want to cast it.
Anyhow. I’ve been painting up the crew for my Death Shrieker. I mentioned how I plan to have the rocket firing off. The two without hats I’ve made some blast shields for them to carry on the raised arm. It will be challenging, but I plan to glue the shields on then repainted as neccessary with some source lighting from the rocket. So despite them being virtually ‘finished’ there is still a long way to go.
Also, something I’ve noticed in the Tamurkhan book that I really like is how there is a subtle hint of purple on most of the CD armour (both bronze and iron). Whilst you can’t see it much in these pics I’ve done a watered down wash of liche purple over the scales, and since these photos I’ve done another one, plus on the hat. Looks real pretty imo and it’s something I would recommend.
Something else I noticed is that the WF CD don’t have moustaches… Someone’s been looking to scibor for inspiration clearly. I just painted the upper lip as a moustache.

On the bull issue: you could temporarily remove the scales, make a mould of the “fleshy” taurus, cast it and cover one up in scales and make one for the “commercial” market ;D

Love the crew! About the moustaches, some Forge World Chaos Dwarfs actually have them:). Take the Daemonsmith for instance, or the driver of the Iron Daemon
