Grimstonefire:

Something of interest to you all I’m sure.  I’ve found someone who will contract cast models for me in resin very quickly and for a very reasonable rate.  Which I will be using in preference to Troll Forged for things in the short term because of his workload and the really, really slow turnaround.

So the elite dwarfs here and the bull when they’re done I’ll need to get an indication of likely interest before deciding my next move.  The elite dwarfs I could probably keep nearer £2.30 ish each, maybe, depending on the final cost.  I wouldn’t be out to price gouge for those, but get a reasonable return.

Vogon:

Are these the same as the ones you are getting made in plastic at Troll Forged or some other pieces?

Thanks

Vogon

aka_mythos:

I’m pretty sure he’s talking about this: http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/attachment.php?aid=2734

and this http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/attachment.php?aid=2772

which are different from the Troll Forge pieces.

Grimstonefire:

Cheers, yes. Those models.

I think I’ll start a new thread soon for the bull, because I was doing some work last night on the scales, trying to come up with something that looked a bit more ‘natural’.  What I ended up with was a mix of organic scales and lava texturing.  Which would be a reasonable compromise as I was never planning on doing the whole thing like lava or just skin, and I quite like the scales in principle.

The scales look a little bit like tyranid ones actually.  I’ll do a bit more then take some pics.

Whilst I happen to be replying, something I was thinking today is that if I do get it cast I think I’ll make one with a magma cannon on and some swivel flame throwers on the sides. :hashut

gIL^:

So are your normal Dwarfs still going to be the £1.50 range?

I didn’t know you were casting your bull, zomg ill have to wait to field a destroyer till you finish this.

Grimstonefire:

Yes, around that.  They’ll be plastic so hopefully I can keep the cost fairly low.

This guy would be doing the elites in resin, so I would have to charge more for those.

There’s not that many models people could use as a destroyer. I was thinking the new Stonehorn would be good actually.

Grimstonefire
im using my stonehorn as a woolly taurus, as for the destroyer its going to be a whirlwind of fire and blades

Grimstonefire:

An updated shot of the bull, with my idea for the head.  The scales would be blended in more, I just stuck blobs on there to test it out.

Also note the texturing to the right of the horn is now a mix of lava plates and scales.  The plates on the shoulders will have small spikes on it.

So I’ve gone with an entirely organic/ daemonic look.  No metal or mechanical parts.

Borador:

Hell yes that’s more like it!

lostmember:

I like that new bull head a lot. Do you have anything to scale it?

warh:

nice, the scales look a lot better!

Skink:

It looks better than before that’s for sure. But still, I would prefer to have it less covered in scales/armour (that’s my personal taste at last:P). I was imagining it a sort of mechanical/organic monster full of cracks in its skin leaking lava and fire, whit just a few bits of armour around its neck, shoulders and thighs.

Admiral:

I think you’re doing the scales just about right. At first I thought the un-scaled bull looked better even though I liked the scale idea, but now I’ve changed my mind. This will make a great balrogish K’daai.

Ill have to agree with Skink! ;)

ashur:

Could you please show us your Astragoth ?

Could you please show us your Astragoth ?

ashur
Is that a euphemism?

Borador:

No, Grim has made a giant Astragoth at a certain point. Don’t know if it’s in this blog but it’s on the site for sure :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Edit: link
but please don’t necro the thread

Daaaaaamn...

ashur
hahaha......that "daaaaaamn" made me laugh.

Grimstonefire:

This model has been shelved temporarily until I can find someone to cast it.  I think I’ll rework some parts as well, reduce the number of parts.  It’s otherwise finished though, these are old WIP shots.

Also a WIP orc, as I happen to be posting.  I plan to make a unit of 15 mixing the boar boy torsos with black orc legs, plus the 10 savage orcs.  All converted to regular boys.

And an old one I did a while back.  I’ve swapped the shield to a 2nd hand weapon.
