[Archive] The Slaughterers (my new blog)

Taurian:

I knew just looking at it I would not be happy until he was shorter so I carved out the head and the beard above the arms and resculpted it so his helmet looks like it's going behind his hands.  As the IG will mostly be standing on rubble the height difference has gone away.

Grimstonefire
Wow, you really did an admirable job on the AoW chaos dwarf. He looks just the right size to fit in. I wouldn't mind doing something like this myself, but I don't have the skill or the guts to risk gutting my mini only to have the results end up looking like crap. Maybe I'll try something later when I get some more confidence.

Ghrask Dragh:

Great work buddy, lovin the helm you’ve done for him.

IG looks great too, nice mask, how many of those guys have you done?

Grimstonefire:

That is an interesting question… There are maybe 5 models being worked on at the moment. Because of the basing issue I mentioned before (them needing specific base positions), it’s going to take a while to get them together.

The shield on that guy btw with the 2 colours blending is how I am considering repainting the larger bits of armour. A lot of work, but potentially less if I can get my airbrush up and running with a more fine tip.

Ghrask Dragh:

Airbrush eh? been thinking of using mine for ages, how do you find it? Is it worth putting the effort into learning how to use it?

Grimstonefire:

To be honest I’ve only got a medium fine tip I believe, so my experiences are limited to blending on quite large things at the moment.

I’m finding it hard to get used to, especially until I get the extra fine tip.  So I can’t see me painting infantry sized models with it any time soon (though I have seen people do it with chaos warriors).

I actually think that using it on the WF warmachines would be the most appropriate use for it I have at the moment.  You could do some amazing metallic highlighting and shading with it with a lot of practice.

So basically, unless you are prepared to put a lot of effort in it’s just a glorified way of undercoating.

The shield I painted was blended from black through red to orange and took a while to make it smooth.

ewww. I bet they will be pretty hot. you know skaven bodies and all :sick

warh:

love them gobbo’s!

Kera : that must be one of the most original storm vermin convertion i’ve heard about.

Kera foehunter:

Kera gives a hug to grim … sorry for taking your thunder on your blog

But yes there nice working on 10 of them

Grimstonefire:

Some models I’ve been working on this week.  2 more Tormentors both WIP.  Trying to get the shield arm in exactly the same place on all models is proving a challenge.

The gun arm I’m doing is also proving tricky as it’s not really held that naturally (more like he’s pushing something away with it.

I have 2 more started, ideally I’ll make 6 in total and do 6 GW, 6 HW, 6 blunderbuss, 6 rifles and 6 shields.  Plus a standard, a horn and a HW arm for my troll forged hero.

swoon

I want these. Take my money, dang you! :cheers

warh:

Looks great!

Constructive criticism I can think of would be the soft edges on the shoulder pads and the beard rings on the top guy, but I guess those parts aren’t done.

Are these going to be sent to TF as well (really hope so)?

dgoer:

Sorry if this has already been said, but did you ever get your guys casted up? and are they currently for sale anywhere?

I scanned through the thread and it sounded like things were still on hold from last summer still.

-Dgoer

BTW- the new greens look awesome!

Taurian:

My favorite is the guy in the front right. There’s a lot to like all around about these guys. And I agree that the hook-beards do look pretty cool. The one in front on the left, though…between the horns and what’s in front of his face, every time I look at it I am reminded of this mini that someone else did of a hobgoblin with a bandana or something like that over his face. Maybe when he’s painted it will remove that notion.

BTW, maybe this is a stupid question, but I’m still fairly new to the forums–are these all for your own personal enjoyment, or would these be destined for casting at some point? They look so good that it would seem a shame not to make molds of them so that others could add these minis to their armies.

Grimbold Blackhammer:

My Chaos Dwarves have all dropped to their knees bowing and muttering “we’re not worthy” over and over!!!  Nice sculpts!!

Grimstonefire:

To answer several questions, the original evil dwarf warriors are currently being cast. Ed needs some colourant for his plastic and a couple of bits for his machines he’s building but other than that I expect at least a limited initial release in the next few weeks. Followed by a general release afterwards.

These models I am thinking I will go to a contract caster, so they will be metal or resin. Although I don’t want to risk sending them to Ed and risk waiting 9+ months again it would be nice to have them in plastic… I could probably get them out in a couple of months if I really worked hard.
