[Archive] The Slaughterers (my new blog)

warh:

Now I see what you meant with the volcano emblem.

Really fun to see this army develop, plan on taking any army pictures soon?

Mr Saturday:

Ah, they look great! Then new wolves are a winner.

Grimstonefire:

@Gil

I can do a tutorial on the next batch (whenever that may be).

Basically though:

#1.   Only use the legs where both legs are on the same half of the torso.  They are side by side so it looks better, otherwise it may look like they’re walking.

#2.  Slice/scrape off any fur on the legs.  Easy to overdo this bit.  Don’t glue together yet.

#3.  Cut a triangle out of the front tabard more or less to the crotch.  Aim to finish on an armour plate etc so it looks intended.  Widen this so that the legs fit as well as possible.

#4.  Bend the feet/legs down a bit so that the toes point a little to the ground.  More natural that way.  Try hard not to snap them off!

#5.  Glue the back on.

#6.  Cut out a triangle again so that when you look from underneath the model doesn’t have much stopping it from sitting on it’s ‘bottom’.  Easier to show with a picture that.

#7.  At this stage I trim a little off the wolf fur if it’s sticking up in the wrong place at the back.

#8.  Keep slicing off bits of the cloth at the back until it looks a good fit.  Slice off any of the tail left on the inside.

#9.  When the model looks a good fit, take out small slices of the cloth at the back so it fits in better with the cloth around it.

#10.  If your model is anything like mine there will not be a whole lot of places where the rider is touching, so bear that in mind when applying the glue.

#11.  Lastly I put a small bit of greenstuff like a saddle tucking it up under the rider a bit so it looks better.

@Warh

As this is my ‘new’ army and I’ve sold off pretty much everything else, there is not much of an army yet actually. :frowning:

I have 20 hobgoblins with 2 hand weapons, about half of which are painted, the other undercoated.

8 hobgoblins with bows, 5 painted I think

5 wolf riders, 4 painted.

14 infernal guard, 1 painted.

Magma cannon (needs undercoating)

Death Shrieker painted

3 x WF heroes (need undercoating/assembling)

Drazhaoth (needs basing/undercoating)

Iron Daemon (part painted)

Siege Giant (part painted)

Plus a few other heroes and assorted random models from my old army.

So at the moment it’s hardly an army.  I will be buying at least 10 more IG plus the command later in the year.  Otherwise it will be trollforged warriors when Ed finally does them.

I really want to finish the hobgoblins and warmachines before getting more troops though.

Grimstonefire
Thank you for this step by step. The note about only selecting those torsos with the legs one one side is something I would never have thought of myself. I will be cracking on with mine as soon as I get some wolves purchased. A tutorial will be most welcome next time you do some

gIL^:

Thanks thats a great help. Still wouldn’t say no to a tutorial though

Grimstonefire:

Although the consensus is to do my tutorial in WoH, I’ve added a picture to my basic one above as it was the one step that was hard to describe.

I’ve been busy yesterday and today working on something a little different.  Not sure yet whether it will work as I hope it will, but I’m reasonably pleased so far.

Vogon knows what this is as I told him, but I wonder if the rest of you can guess. It’s still WIP btw. It’s going to take ages before I can consider it done as aside from finishing gluing the coarse turf on I’ll need to spray it several times with varnish and perhaps spray adhesive to make it harder.

bas_2312:

BOOOOOOOOOM!

It’s an explosion right?

Thommy H:

I assume it’s eventually going to be an explosion, but I’m not sure what that would form the basis of. How big’s that base?

Grimstonefire:

@Bas. Yes. Or an explosion on a broccoli farm.

60 x 100 mm.  Bit of a giveaway that actually.

It is a trial run for a 100 x 150 mm base though

Thommy H:

Ooh, that should be interesting then.

vulcanologist:

An exploding k’daai???

Vaftrudnir:

Im starting to sense a bit of awesome here :o

Hashut’s Blessing:

More like a rocket-backpacked k’daii

Kera foehunter:

Fashion tip Grims

Hair spray !!

spray adhesive may take away the fluffiness of the explosion

and make it more globby

Plus you could use in on your own hair , to get that Spiked look you always wanted when you go the clubs

Grimstonefire:

I need to work on the painting of the explosion as I’m not happy with it yet.

In the meantime, I’ve painted my first two Infernal Guard.  I will be repainting the other one I showed because I decided that given their fluff they don’t deserve to have a rich paint scheme.

What I did here was to raise one foot up on a brick whilst sticking both feet down with greenstuff instead of glue.  This enabled me to adjust them for as long as needed because they also have to be able to rank holding great weapons… :~

I’ll be assembling them mostly in groups of two, with the occasional group of 3 and some single models.

The symbol on the shields is from Tamurkhan (meaning worthless).

warh:

Haha, there worthless :stuck_out_tongue:

The old chaos warrior head works great, is the other head sculptured?

The dark metal looks awesome!

Grimstonefire:

It’s sculpted onto the front of the Infernal head. I’ve done a few more like this as I find them far too plain.

Skink:

Well, putting feet on bricks gives the mini a more dramatick pose IMO so go for it! Also, I like the little conversions you did like sclpting belts and beards. Subtle and effective! Nice paint jog too!

Admiral:

Oh, great IG! I’m surprised how well the old Chaos Warrior head works on the new FW Infernal Guards. That might call for some investigation in the bitz box…

By the way, nice Chaos star on the other IG’s helmet mask. Chaos stars are fiddly to sculpt, but you pulled it off with without flaw.
