Grimstonefire:

A test shield design.  Let me know what you all think of it as it these guys will be for sale soon (hopefully).

What I plan to do is make 5 shield designs.  This one is ‘bull looking left’, I have ‘looking right’, ‘looking straight ahead’, ‘side shot left’, ‘side shot right’.  Which are basically all the same shapes (bull face, large horn, rim at top and lightning strike on forehead).

They would all be more or less a circle.

I worked out that it will be easy to separate the shields from the shield arm.  So I will cast the arm (to make them all fit the same) and people could always use their own shields if they wanted to.

Borador:

Looks good! Plus an original design, which I must say I quite like.

Are you getting them cast in metal or in resin? And will they be cast by a company or by yourself? (sorry for asking that much, just curious ;P)

Cheers!

Grimstonefire:

Resin I think, from Troll Forged minis.

To be honest I would cast them myself if I only wanted say 3 of each, but eventually I want enough to make an army and I’m too lazy to cast that many myself.

Ah, ok ^^
Yeah, casting a lot and getting good casts each time takes too much effort for me as well, that's why I don't cast anything haha ;P

warh:

Grimstonefire, you are only getting better and better! Truly lovely

Shakhorth:

Love the shield, very original!

So what’s your secret to getting the surface of the green stuff looking so smooth all the time?  Water?

Grimstonefire:

Yes.  Also a trick I use is to cut the greenstuff out carefully.

I use greenstuff where the yellow and green join together, so I cut across both colours then trim the yellow and blue apart taking out a tiny bit where they join.  I save all these little bits and use them as the core of a model.

I also trim the bit off the far end of the yellow as I found that if GS is sitting around for a while the bit on the end gets a skin on it that breaks up into tiny flecks of yellow and doesn’t mix well.

When it’s fully dry you can file GS as well.  It slices well with a sharp knife.

Don't think i'm weird, but I find saliva is best.

Yes I know, yuch

Grimstonefire:

I actually use spit as well, but seeing as GS is slightly toxic and I use it so much I’m trying moving to regular water.

Baggronor:

Looking very cool, Grim. Let me know if you change your mind about Trollforged. Either way, you should blatantly get them cast up.

Thorne:

Vaseline works rather well too, Nice sheild design I like it

Its just closer to me when I remember :~

Obsidian:

Your sculpting is going quite well mate! :hat off

Grimstonefire:

A small update here.

I’ve sculpted and cast 5 left and 5 right arms (shield separate). So now I need some ideas for what to do for the weapons.

I’ve done one axe already and I think I should do at least one more.

A mace perhaps?

Borador:

Nice!

My two cents:

* a hammer with a small, roundish head (square heads might make it look funny-ish or something I think, but you could try that aswell if you like it ^^)

* a bladed (chain) whip, though that might be better for characters without shields

* a spear

* traditional chinese sword (example link, just to clarify myself)

Hope this is helpful!

Looking forward to seeing the arms ^^

Anonymouse:

I’d say a hammer as well: goes with dwarfs

A mace could work very well: sauron-esque, perhaps?

How about a man-catcher?

Spear would be more appropriate for a common footsoldier, maybe a scimitar?

Hashut’s Blessing:

Axes, hammers, maces, curved swords and something else… Maybe a falchion type blade as well? I think spears, man-catchers, whips etc don’t come off as ordinary hand weapons, personally.

Grimstonefire:

I’m getting very close to done on this guy.

I realise looking at the pics that I’ve forgotten to finish the arrows on one of the vambraces. Other than this, what do people think?

Horns ok? Detail on the cloak?

Warriors are getting close to done as well. The arms are probably 75% done. Need to do 4 more shields.

furrie:

Nice sculpt, the cape looking realy sweet.
