WarplockMonkey:

Sorry for the lack of updates lately chaps, though i have a few wee things tae show yah :stuck_out_tongue:

Because i want all my stuff in one place, i have decided to post up pics of my now painted sorceror (i asked one of the blue-shirts about the casting, and he said 'only if your prepared to have GW shove a very large and spikey lawsuit up your backside) in my gallery in this little, rarely explored part of the forum!

Trust me on this one guys, the pictures of him are RUBBISH, i may haveto take some more of him in the future, s dont make your judgment final yet :stuck_out_tongue:

And drumroll…a sneak peak of my latest big project, the Sotek Saurus!

Note: That furry thing inbetween his legs is going to be a skaven-pelt loin-cloth thingy, it will be distinguisable in the future, but on the pic now it looks rather strange!

Comments are, as always more than welcome!

Kera foehunter:

Nice tatoos!!!Btw just kill the rat!!!

wallacer:

The sword is terrific. It actually looks more like a giant sacrificial dagger.

Vexxus:

The painted mage looks terrific! I love the purple flames and the tattoos.

The scuplt is coming along nicely, you seem really adept at cold blooded beasts!

Cheers

Grongi Blackbeard:

naaww way! both of the new saurs are so awsome that they deserve to be in you sig!

WarplockMonkey:

Well guys, the Saurus is just about finished, paintwork is going to start tomorrow, as im going to my local GW, so any criticisms on the main sculpt must be posted tonight!:o

I present to you… well i havnt come up with a name yet, but it’s going to be followed by ‘Champion of Sotek’, i may write up some fluff and rules if i have some time :stuck_out_tongue:

So what do you think chaps?

- Warplock

Vexxus - I like to think they are my speciality, because nobody else i know does them!

wallacer - that was the effect i was trying to attcheive, i based the weapon on Teheauin’s dagger:

And im not sure if you can see it on the pics, but iv given him chest armour simmilar too!

Grongi Blackbeard:

i’d say its perfecty

Father Grumpmas:

Fantastic stuff - the idea is excellent, the design very dynamic, and the model pulls the whole thing off perfectly.

Not much more to say really - will look great painted :hat off

Godbob and his jolly rogers:

it make me want to start my lizardmen all over again well done give your self a shiny

WarplockMonkey:

Well chaps, heres a small update, paintwork on the lizzie himself is just about finished, so heres a little gizmo i founf on the vastness of the internet (google)

Not the best pictures, but thats all your gettin’!

- Warplock

Godbob - DO IT! The scaley ones need you!

Hashut’s Blessing:

First of all, sweet purples and nice tatts. If the pics don’t do him justice, then I doubt I can handle the real thing. Secondly, on what grounds would they base their lawsuit on? If you don’t call it a Chaos Dwarf, you haven’t breached any copyright issues etc as it’s all your own work…

First set of pics, looking good (I’ll talk more on the latest one…).

Second set of pics, beautiful! Everything came out well and I you managed the cobra-crest perfectly (which is what i’d suggested for the saurus  ) and I love the scales, particularly on the tail.

Painted pics, the first thing that springs to mind is how red he appears. Maybe add some blue somewhere to break it up a little and also to tie it back in with the other saurus etc. Also, how were you thinking of doing the snakes on the base and the rat ogre? I hope you do a large patch of fur exactly the same as on the saurus’ loincloth, otherwise it might look like any fur… Is it perhaps too late to add a couple of skaven feet to the loincloth, similar to how some “tribal people” are pictured with tooth necklaces etc…

I was going to do the rat-ogre a similar colour to his lion cloth, once again to pull together the model visually.

That is a good idea, but unfortuneatly i think its a wee bit late to do any additions to the saurus :/

So the spinny thing wasnt my best idea ever, so i shall give you a static picture ;)

Do note that there is a few teakings needed, the fangs need some more blending, and if you can see something in its arm-pit, its just the reflection of light from some un-dried paint, the haste i was in to take some pictures for y'all ;)

I thought i should put some sort of basing stuff before i start work on the rat-ogre, and suprsingly cooking herbs give a very good effect of leaf-litter, any other ideas of how i could make it more 'jungly'? I cant put any more beasties on it, as the three snakes are supposed to be representing 3 saurus ;)

Dino:

Nice paint job Warplock. The red skin looks really awsome. Can’t wait to see him finished up. Good luck man.

Hashut’s Blessing:

I thought it may be a little late. Curse my girlfriend being unwell :stuck_out_tongue: (For the reason of missing that and for her not being well of course  ) Glad you’d already decided to paint the rat ogre similarly  I think it’s good to get an overall idea of the model, but for detail, a still snap shot afterwards is useful  Since it’s too late to add some blue to the saurus, make sure that his claws, teeth, mouth and eyes are all painted the same (as they’re really the only bits that can be done the same) and maybe the breastplate too (if it isn’t already). I assume the bases shall be the same for both? Are you thinking of adding three (say) chameleons (or something) to the other saurus’ base? That might help to tie them together a bit as well… For jungle, get some broom bristles (maybe add a tiny sausage of greenstuff skewered on the end) to make reeds or you could make ferns and saplings from a couple of paperclips twisted together, coated in paper and given paper leaves (stiffened with PVA and painting it will add extra strength too) maybe?

Kera foehunter:

Love the colors on the lizard. thats some great work you been doing lately

i like to see some monkeys !!! Warplock!!!

they fit in your lizzard army

WarplockMonkey:

Just a wee update me’buckos!

Unfortuneatly, typical of me i was…distracted from the Sotek Saurus, so there has been no updates there :~

However, i have two shiney things to show yah!

First up, you know the Dogs of War unit Tichi Huitchi’s Raiders?

With the shiney new cold ones released, i decided to ‘update’ these old models, with a plastic skink and some Warplock magic, i came up with this guy, my first…erm…guy? I dont think it is as characterful as the old models, so you guys got any ideas how i could make it so?

Sorry the pics are pretty bad, the light was fading, damn the British so-called-summer weather!

And a WIP, a Nurgle Herald that I have been commisioned to make, the guy gave me quite alot of ground to experiment, basically he just said ‘do me a herald on a palanquin and make it awsome’, so this is what i have come up with so far!

So what do you think guys?

- Warplock

Obsidian:

The Skink Cold One rider is the best! Really, really like it!

Khan!:

Both the herald and the skink look good so far, but I think you’re right about the character of the old ones… I’m trying to figure out what it is about them though, because they don’t really have a whole lot going on that the new skink models don’t. My tentative conclusion is that it has something to do with the mouth? ie the new skink models just have straight lines for mouths which aren’t very exciting - that’s the only thing I can think of, but your version definitely looks good regardless!

AGPO:

Funny Khan, I was thinking the same thing. One of the open mouthed skink heads would look a lot better in my opinion. Awesome work on both models though!

One question - how do you get such a smooth fiish when you’re sculpting? Whenever I try to do anything which is smooth rather than textured I can’t get the finish right. Any tips?

Hashut’s Blessing:

Well, so far, the daemon on planaquin is succeeding, IMO. Any other plans for it?

As for the skink, looks great. Two things (one of which has been mentioned), lengthen the tail (another idea, maybe add a slight cresting to it and/or webbing on the spines) and open the mouth up. It might also need some more decorations… I think it’s mostly down to the colour scheme though. They also look a little hyper, so if you can bring that across, try to. Not sure what else could be done though…
