I don’t feel like painting at all at the moment, but at least I have started with the base … it has to be done!
Had a few beers for courage and went for it, with no less than 3 drills, 2 batteries and about 4 drill bits, covered my paint station in resin dust but it worked!
Cheers
Somebody did a dwarf version of this thing. Only a matter of time until we see a chaos dwarf version.
I think i have enough big things now though…
Don’t get the dust in your lungs, it’s very, very bad for you (you probably already knew but I’m a worrier, I feel the need to say these things).
Well, the construction of part A is finally complete. This was not without setbacks. Several of the finer and more delicate parts of the design had to be abandoned as Igor repeatedly failed to construct them. Some problem with his thumbs apparently. To be honest I was not actually listening at the time. One thing engineers are never short of is excuses.
No matter! Part A now needs only final ornamentation and the addition of appropriate iconography. This is possibly my favourite stage of production. I do so love to let the artistic juices flow. Admittedly the artists may feel differently, but we must all serve Hashut in our own way.
praise Hashut
My war machine pictures are in - not overly wow but I’m happy with the look that I was going for - I kinda like the way the photos give it an old world vibe to the unpainted miniature - how are you guys soldiering on?
Slowly haha . Too many projects . Too little time
Finally settled on a build, got all the bits, now just have to work out how to fit them together.
Haha I just checked the entry date and we still plenty of time left
You’re up to the fun part - super glue gels my friend when kit bashing - it fills in all the join lines good enough without having to use green stuff
I’m done building and currently at about 80% painted. When I’m done painting I MIGHT decide for some small extras but that will depend on how real life works out
I added to the announcement an attempt to clarify the special case rules for 3D-sculpts and handsculpts you yourself have entirely made:
Please note that we are currently allowing your fully self-made 3D-sculpts (both the digital sculpt file and the physical print) in Artisan’s Contest, but not in the more painting-centred Golden Hat competition. We are likewise allowing unpainted fully handsculpted miniatures. Artisan’s Contest has always been more about freewheeling creativity and experimentation. Do note, however, that the lack of physical prints and paintjobs is sure to hamper any entry from gaining votes. Also note that any inclusion of other miniature parts (apart from bases) that are not 3D-sculpted or handsculpted by yourself will require you to paint your entry.
Apart from these two special exceptions, entries have to be painted.
On the Discord server the question of whether entries had to be painted was raised. Yes, it’s in the general contest rules linked in the announcement. But that’s such a fundamental part that it might well be repeated in the announcement, too.
Note that if any confusion caused by unclear wording in this particular instance would result in people entering (for example) a mostly scratchbuilt but unpainted entry with too little time to have any chance of painting it, then we’ll let them in since the fault is entirely mine. I’ve never been good with rules and instructions (in fact running contests started partially as an attempt to try out something completely unfamiliar), and what might seem like clear wording while writing may actually create most understandable confusion.
My apologies for any confusion caused. I hope the new wording clears it up. No worries, any misunderstandings is on my debit, and we won’t punish anyone who happens to stumble across that particular lack of rules clarity.
Back to building and painting for the fun of it.
As to the rules in the quote above, they may actually be too strict and narrow as they stand (it’s all experimental, so let’s tinker and change as we go along).
If you like, we can discuss improvements here or in another thread, and modify the rules if need be. Artisan’s Contest has always been more about building original creations rather than a pure painting competition, so it might be advisable to open up for unpainted entries which e.g. contain conversions, sculpted parts and scratchbuilt parts along with miniature parts from some manufacturer. If you have any suggestions here, then please share them.
Potential rule changes might happen after this contest for consistency, or they might happen for this running competition; we’ll see.
The base is almost finished and I now know what I want to paint … at least that’s progress!
Got a start and the idea is taking shape. Looking ahead, June is going to be insanely busy for me, and modelling time will be somewhere between non-existent and minimal. If I don’t make massive headway before June starts, then my odds of entering will be very low. Worse case scenario the model will be finished outside of a contest, or make a showing for another contest in a totally different form.
Goblin ass cannon , looks cool, as does all their stuff. Pity for me its in resin or id be really tempted
That cannon could be painted as a demon no probs
Thanks @Zoddtheimmortal !
That is pretty cool! I especially love the gobbo doing the moon! HAHA
How’s everyone getting on?
My entry is built and mostly painted. I’ve put it on hold for a while to “clean the pallette” so to speak. When I’ve recovered a bit more from having corona I’ll do the finishing touches.
