Rules use a word ‘target’ when you succesfully cast it. Hits are after you roll T test.
Yes, because usually (i.e. with Cannons or template weapons) you start by determining if the character is hit in the first place, and only then do the Look Out Sir. in case of the magic missile, that happens with the casting roll. They hit automatically. Just from a logical standpoint it makes no sense to roll against the character’s toughness and then transfer hits on the models. How is that supposed to occur? No, you make the LoS roll and if successful, use the toughness of the unit and all hits are on one single model, excess wounds are lost. Nothing else makes sense to me.
I of course realise that in a tournament setting it’s up for a TO to decide and that there is also the other interpretation. But that (a) makes no sense and (b) is more convoluted and takes longer with lots of individual dice rolls. I hope a TO would be open to these arguments.

Not a shadow of a doubt in my mind that this was created as a direct result of watching that Dawi after dark video we saw the other day. I’ll let you guys know how it does. I expect it to do rather well, honestly. The comp has a 1 dragon or lvl 4 as well as a 40% characters comp, but lo and behold, neither monster is a dragon, and they weigh in at a combined 799 out of an 800pts allotment.
KEY, evil , laughter…MooohoooHoooo, MooohoooHooo.
We request full report of the carnage you will cause.
Dawi AD is good…
Get good photos!
Oh I didn’t make it super clear. This is not my list, but one that will be fielded by a fellow kinsman on Sunday. I was signed up for the tournament too, but my birth giver is having her 60th that day, so… Had to pull out
@Zoddtheimmortal I’ll share pictures when they come in, I’m still in the discord for said tournament.
@Tusk playing today. I’ll update here with results ^^ First battle vs mortuary cults.
First Round 13-7 to CD I’m guessing he took out catapults and scorpions with the flying dudes, and then cleaned up as much as possible after that.
Pictures:
Yes, it would appear the flying duo made a sweep of the back line. That’ll do it.
The two iron daemons and MSU cutthroats holding the center.
Freaky death shrieker.
Round two vs. Vampire counts with dual banshees and dual terrorgheists. 15-5 victory to the high LD chaos dwarfs. Good job guys! I suspect the iron daemons did well to shoot apart the flying terrors, as the flying duo hunted down the various characters, avoiding tarpits.
Third and final round is against a mournfang heavy ogre list. This might just be a walk in the park, but who knows.
Update: Indeed, the third round clocks in at a comfortable 13-7 to the chorfs. Our man slides easily into 2nd place, but 1st place (same dude who won last time) has finished all 3 games 20-0, and so is fairly untouchable at the top. First place is Orcs and Goblins, btw.
Quote from @Tusk : “3 wins . The dawi zharr are good boys”. No argument there.
I like the iron demons. What meodels are they?
I can ask
Update: Purifying Machine - Bestiarum Studio - Miniatures by Only-Games.co
Bestiarium Purifying Machine, as it turns out
Im the guy with the good boys . Ask me anything if you want
I’ll kick it off ^^ I already asked whether you missed some more substantial armour on the bull. The answer was yes, but target saturation and a bit of creative positioning alleviated the issue.
Is that a fair assumption of what happened? Is it correct that the threat of scorpions is more real on paper than on the battlefield? How’d you handle the Necrosphinx?
How about this? Are we actually an army that’s uniquely well suited to take on the ubiquitous screamer list? Did you miss veteran on your black orcs?
Was it a walk in the park? What happened that made you guys think it was sort of a silly game? I could imagine maybe a few lucky demolition rounds could quickly skew the result.
Lastly: Gj on getting best looking army as well! I got that last time, so the Chorfs are two for two on that one ^^
I m not good at this but the answers will be after each question.
Thanks it was painted in 5 days
One last thing i have noticed with chorfs is your lore doesnt really matter, storm of ash is possibly one of the best spells in the game if used correctly. I only really cast that . Thats why i dont bring a lore familiar
My answers are inside what you wrote hope you can understand the madness
Makes a lot of sense!
necrosphinx i allowed to charge my daemon
Wow! That’s a poor choice of matchup! Being a flying creature vs a slow AF chariot, it has to have been intentional.
In honesty if the army had been more disgusting i would have been under immense pressure ( lack of mortis engines)
I noticed he didn’t field any mortis engines. I’ve played the guy before, actually, and he played very WYSIWYG, but frankly also a bit WAAC, so it’s possible he omitted them for lack of models and not cause he didn’t want to bring them.
Blorcs: I did not miss vets but i did miss stubborn, i dont care that he screams at them as they are a secondary threat.
That’s a good point! I’m a fan of stubborn only on the blorcs, but our own @Jasko has made an argument for veteran as a counter to screamer lists, which is why I thought to ask.
my opponent understood what was dangerous and their ranges so we danced a little
He’s no slouch. I haven’t had the opportunity to play him, but I’d like to, some day.

Hah! Be that as it may, the colours work, and the short painting window makes it so it’s very uniform - you didn’t have time to forget the paint recipes!
your lore doesnt really matter
I’m inclined to agree. Storm of Ash for sure can make (or break, if you will) a game, and the other two chorf spells have their uses. As for daemonology, I think, with our melee-oriented sorcerers, that really only the vortex is not useful. Steed of Shadows has been important for my game plan, personally, but I think it can be worked around, if you don’t get it. I shall continue to not bring a lore familiar. It’s a dice game after all.
One thing i missed was missing out on scoring units so im changing that and the hellbound upgrade was missed 4 terror causers can be very powerful
Any recommendations on the Lammas? Folks seem to prefer the Taurus.
For a combat (i.e. Daemonology) caster yes, Bale Taurus follows the META.
But for a support caster with Elementalism the Lammasu is an interesting choice. MR(3) on your lvl4 wizard makes him pretty much immune to (direct) magic and with Fly(9) you can position him exactly where you need him. You have an 18" bubble for your Infernal Engineer too. Lammasu’s Sorcerous Exhalation is arguably the best breath weapon in the game. And it still turns your Sorc into an acceptable fighter, as he will benefit from the Lammasu’s Armour Bane (2) and Furious Charge! Not to mention that all magic weapons only count as hand weapons. It’s easy to sleep on the Lammasu, but I think it’s a very interesting choice. Not only for a Sorc but also a Daemonsmith.
I’m (against my better judgement) taking a lamassu to a 6 game team tournament in the end of this month. I’ll let y’all know how I get on. No breath weapon on it, though, I’ve never gotten it to really work, when I both have to position myself to: cast on the enemy, cast on myself and my own guys, AND be somewhat safe. It’s a tall order.
Does anyone have any tips for using Hobgoblins correctly? I’ve been playing 1200-1000 pt games IRL and online but I just cant get them to work. I usually take them in units of 20-25 with command and they just cant do anything. At best they are time wasters for the enemy, I have not defeated a single unit with them, and hardly wounded anything at all. They just disintergrate whenever they hit anything, and their abysmal WS and S mean they can’t match against anything. This has only been with hand weapons, I imagine that bows are more useful but I havent tried them yet. Nine times out of ten they are just wasted points for me.
I know a lot of people take big bricks of them at 2000 pts but lower than that you can’t really afford to take loads of them if you want your sorcerer-prophet to be at all viable against every other faction’s heavy hitter. I find I have to at least give my sorcerer-prophet a Lammasu as hero-hammer is very much still alive for me. Big tough characters will just annihlate almost everything in my list excluding the Iron Deamon.
I imagine that bows are more useful
Jup, that’s the trick. Def go for bows, then they work in almost any unit size from 10 to idk 40 or so. In fact, I believe they’re the cheapest bow in the game. Thanks to levies you can put them in front or between units and just plink wounds off models here and there.
A champion might be a good idea for that +1 to LD and issuing a challenge if you want, but other than that I wouldn’t even give them a command unit. As you’ve experienced, they’re quite rubbish in combat. That banner is basically free 50pts for your opponent.
This is what I plan to take in my next 1000 game:
++ Characters [433 pts] ++
Daemonsmith Sorcerer [275 pts]
(Darkforged weapon, Heavy armour, Level 2 Wizard, General, Great Taurus, Mantle of Stone, Daemonology)
Hobgoblin Khan [94 pts]
(Hand weapon, Throwing weapons, Cavalry spear, Light armour, Shield, Shortbow (instead Throwing weapons), Giant Wolf, Ruby Ring of Ruin)
Hobgoblin Khan [64 pts]
(Hand weapon, Throwing weapons, Great weapon, Light armour, Shield, Giant Wolf)
++ Core Units [428 pts] ++
14 Infernal Guard [264 pts]
(Hailshot blunderbuss, Heavy armour, Shield, Drilled (0-1 per 1000 points), Deathmask (champion), Standard bearer)
49 Hobgoblin Cutthroats [164 pts]
(Hand weapons, Shortbows, Boss (champion), Standard bearer, Musician)
++ Special Units [60 pts] ++
10 Sneaky Gits [60 pts]
(Two hand weapons, Throwing weapons)
++ Rare Units [78 pts] ++
5 Hobgoblin Wolf Riders [78 pts]
(Hand weapons, Cavalry spears, Light armour, Shields, Shortbow, Reserve Move (0-1 per 1000 points), Boss (champion))

This is a mixed arms list. I can see a BO instead of a caster/khan and a small BO unit. But then this BO on wyvern would just win You games right away.
