[TOW] Let's get competitive

That’s right! No penalty for stand & shoot! Lovely!

My estimate would be 1½ shots per guy, since it’s a d3 no? So 20 guys would be 30 shots on average, hitting with 15, so that’s 2½ wounds on average on your standard ~T6 or T5 large target, under optimal circumstances, those wounds then dissolve even 2+ armour, and you’re left with maybe 1 or 2 5++ saves. I mean… I suppose it’s ok, and with TMP they’ll be more difficult to avoid. Maybe I’ll paint up my blunders after all and count them as d6 shots while the rest of the unit stands guard with their axes

That is the case since you get half the ranks after the 1st, hence I ran a block of 30 3x10. I did actually manage to get a couple of full volleys off in my game, once at something on a hill and once because someone failed a charge and plopped right in front of me.

They are however so rare/difficult to achieve that I would probably not try and set them up deliberately. I think people still don’t want to walk into a wall of blunderbuss fire so they like to dance around the range of them which is a tricky distance with the reduced charge ranges in TOW

D3 means 1+3 so average is 4/2=2 So 20 models = 40 shots on average. 20ish hits. 3+ wounds that counts towards CR. Sure. Dragons are OP but what can You do  Necrosphinxes on the other hand dies faster!

Remember that ALL models shoot vs Large Targets. Not 1st rank + 50%.

You can take a charge, stand &shoot, win combat, hold ground, shoot another volley

I enjoyed them, will definitely give them another run out. Next game I play as CD I want to try out smaller detachments of blunders around a combat block to see how that feels. I need to give Bull Centaurs a try too

At the moment I have just been playing each of my armies to suss out how things fare in TOW

Bulls - I have 6 FW models I did not painted yet but I hope to hind a usage and get motivated to do so…

My goodness, I had to wrap my head around that. Of course, since there is no possibility for a 0, the average is indeed 2 :face_with_crossed_out_eyes:

There is a lot of dice with S3, so You wound most things on 6+ anyway and this is where Razer banner kicks in.

Previous we had Elementalism for additional -2AP. But the Razor Banner already covers this for +6 to wound. Here my question wouldn’t Dark Magic with -1T better in respect to also support the low strength of our rockets and dreadquakes? AP -3 already gives most enemies a 6+ AS or non so AP-5 is not that important, but reducing T6 to T5 is also good for the Irondemon’s shooting.

It’s a good point, especially if you completely steer away from blunderbusses, because they need the TMP spell from Elementalism to even remotely get in range to threaten anything significant.

Does the Wizards Hat allows to swap the randomly generated spell with the Lore’s signature spell? Same way as it is done for normal spell generation. If so a Castellan with hat and illusion granted Glittering Robes could be nice much more in combination with the Ash Storm.

I think it should be possible to swap for signature spell. RAW just says it needs to be randomly generated, which it clearly is.

Daemonology is not bad either with Fly(12) and 4. Daemonic Vessel which, if I read it right, can buff shooting too.

I need some inspiration for a 1250 list with “no lords” (max. 250 per hero).

Did You plan such a small games? Great Taurs/Lammasu can be interesting option. MAby a bog hobgoblin block and BO on chariot?

ALSO

Black Orc chariot questions:

  • I can take a standard but it is not a BS, right? It is just +1CR,
  • 3+ save chariot provides works with i.e. shield I take for my bigboss?

Black orcs weapon options - 2HW or GW - 6 attacks when charging or 4 with S6… Also… Is it REALLY work replacing an orc chariot with BO chariot? This is extra 40 points but we loose save, attacks and S.

I’m in the same boat. On Thursday I have a 1250 match coming up. I was definitely going to take the bolt throwers but stay away from monsters. I was thinking a lot of hobo archers and a strong core unit with a tough general with them. All backed up by some arty. I also was going to take a chance with the sneaky gits coming in from behind the lines with the 50% reinforcement roll. Unfortunately I don’t have any black orcs as I can’t find my classic metal models.

I noticed the lists above didn’t have a lot of hobos.

I found the idea of two wizards interesting. Thoughts on spells?

Wizards are there because W2 heroes are easy to kill. So I went for a build with +4W. I can always get 2x Daemonology missile spells. If You decide not to take monsters I would try Your list. Sneaky gits - Use Fly(12). You can fly (24) and shoot after flying!

Do You have a list draft?

Bolt throwers sounds lice. With points saved from You would get an engineer and some solid shooting.

I think my league added a 250 point per model limit so I will have to drop ID and take something instead… eh…

Quick question, how would I give the sneaky gits fly?

Daemonology. I really like it. You can fly 24" behind something and shoot.

I like list 2 the best, but I would definitely exchange the super expensive chariot for a humble boar! Its armoured hide is great and you have the option of either being a hunter-killer skirmisher, or join the black orc unit to give them Waaagh! and some added melee oomph.

That way you might be able to afford a ruby ring Khan as well - those guys never not earn back their points!

Banner on the blorc chariot is exactly just a banner.

The 3+ armour save of the chariot is as is. You either use that one or the characters.
