[TOW] Let's get competitive

True. Great suggestions. I like chariot as it Has morę HP and a ton of great attacks. I rarely charge anything with orcs…

I like list 2 the best, but I would definitely exchange the super expensive chariot for a humble boar! Its armoured hide is great and you have the option of either being a hunter-killer skirmisher, or join the black orc unit to give them Waaagh! and some added melee oomph.

What would You get for the extra 130 points? Well… 100 if You give ring to the wolf? Bolt throwers? Unit of wolves? Or just more bodies ?

ALso - I think I will consider dropping lvl2 to lvl1 and taking Mantle of Stone

Also… I think Bull centaurs can be an ok option for that points. With T5. Anyway. This is a no ID draft. Sadly a TO removed 250+ single model units for list building. Which means sprawns, Nacrosphinx etc are ok but iron Daemon and steam tank are not.

Here is an updated list:

One Khan to go with wolves, one to join cutthroats. With +4 CR and Khan they are great in combat. Or I can put 2 intro one Wolf unit…

True. A big boss is cheap, though, so might as well keep him cheap. With the trollhide trousers on a boar he’s 2+ 5++ while still retaining some beastly attacks. The blorcs mostly charge things if they’ve been set up with steed of shadows, and that’s a no-go if the boar boss is in there, I’m pretty sure, so good point.

That’s a cool thing about bulltaurs. They can even tank fanatics to a certain degree. Their problem is lack of effective offense, but they’re sturdy and if they do manage to make something FBiGO, it’s gonna be a vicious cycle for the enemy.

That’s a lot of cutthroats. I’ve never used them myself, but I’d imagine the lack of AP is an issue for them.

Cutthroats are … Cheap. No AP is not good but but they can volley fire 20+ shots a turn! And 40 vs large targets. Also nothing else to use those points. Except for those bulls.

I will try both. Boar and chariot. I have them already painted (for KoW) which is great. I will use a centaur as my boar one.

This what I was going to field on Thursday.

I would drops ashen for Razen.

I did use 10 hobgoblin squads. How they work for you?

I was considering a Castellan myself. A proper CC hero. If only he was allowed. But we are limited by ‘no lord’ rule.

Quake mortar - I have to finally paint mine. You skipper ogre loader?

I am restricted in what I can play as everything is circa 1993-1994 models. I’m trying to keep everything original. I don’t have an ogre model and would need to find an equivalent from that era for the earthshaker.

Recommendations on another banner or just forget entirely?

The goblins broken into smaller units allowed greater maneuverability and can distract the opponent. Need to have more than one unit of ten. Statistically as there were so many shots, it still dropped some dwarves as they slowly marched towards me.

Razer banner. It gives Armour Bane (2).

Try Mordheim ogre but there should be several ogres older too.

I have used 2 units of 10. I also used a block of 40 with khan and this is fun unit.

How did the 40 block o hobgoblins work out?

If You have some large target or can combine a Taurus+CT against one target so that Taurus can benefit from +4 CR, great. Still this games is all about killing units and not loosing points so they were good value.

I play 1200 pts no lords all the time. Its actually amazing what you can fit in there when there arr no lords.
I rarely take magic items except the fire ring.

The humble level 2 sorcerer (on foot)is usually the star performer.

Im a big fan of sneaky gits and bolt throwers to maximise what i can put on the table. 3 ogres or kdaai make a cheap flanking force.

A unit of 14+ blunderbusses are my fav cd unit.
For me its all about slowly whittling units down before i get charged. Usually the combats go my way.

I strugle to deal with the snotling giant combo and high armour on empire knights is a threat- hence the bolt throwers.

I prefer taking my hobbos in blocks rather than 10s but it depends what else im trying to squeeze in. You can fit a unit of 12 immortals in pretty easily- failed to get them in combat last time though.

My black orcs always get charged and die…

So you don’t actually have to have your crew modelled, as they are essentially glorified wound markers. But! I’d really like this fellow as an ogre loader/bodyguard:

I have him in STL if you’re interested :parrot::pirate_flag:

Thanks for sharing! I was thinking about K’dII but I am sceptical. I used them begore and it was not fun. If I could predict who I will play then ok. But playing vs elves makes K’daii terrible.

I consider sneaky gits but I also consider Wolves. Gits with fly agrea great but hoping they roll well to show from ambush is not super reliable.

I like the idea of a hero in a IG unit but mages on lvl2 are not super useful, right?

Can You share a sample list?

One more question. Choppas works on impact hits, right?

Ok. Here are my top 3 versions:

Daemonsmith Sorcerer [245 pts]

  • Darkforged weapon
  • Heavy armour
  • Great Taurus
  • Mantle of Stone
  • Daemonology

Daemonsmith Sorcerer [245 pts]

  • Darkforged weapon
  • Heavy armour
  • Level 2 Wizard
  • General
  • Lammasu [Mace tail + Sorcerous Exhalation]
  • Daemonology

Hobgoblin Khan [85 pts]

  • Hand weapon
  • Throwing weapons
  • Giant Wolf
  • Ruby Ring of Ruin

Hobgoblin Khan [49 pts]

  • Hand weapon
  • Throwing weapons
  • Great weapon
  • On foot

16 Infernal Guard [340 pts]

  • Hailshot blunderbuss, - Heavy armour, - Shield
  • Drilled (0-1 per 1000 points)
  • Deathmask (champion), - Standard bearer [Razor Standard]

39 Hobgoblin Cutthroats [134 pts]

  • Hand weapons, - Shortbows
  • Boss (champion), - Standard bearer, - Musician

10 Sneaky Gits [60 pts]

  • Two hand weapons, - Throwing weapons

6 Hobgoblin Wolf Riders [92 pts]

  • Hand weapons, - Light armour, - Shields, - Shortbow
  • Reserve Move (0-1 per 1000 points), - Boss (champion)

This one has a lot of hobgoblins in all shapes and forms and no slave orcs. 3 magic missles and one breat weapon + blunderbusses and shortbows.

2nd list is with orcs but not sneaky gits or wolves

Daemonsmith Sorcerer [245 pts]
(Darkforged weapon, Heavy armour, General, Great Taurus, Mantle of Stone, Daemonology)

Black Orc Bigboss [213 pts]
(Great weapon, Full plate armour, Black Orc Boar Chariot [Hand weapon, Great weapon])

(Hand weapon, Throwing weapons, Great weapon, Giant Wolf, Ruby Ring of Ruin)

Hobgoblin Khan [59 pts]
(Hand weapon, Throwing weapons, Great weapon, Giant Wolf)

37 Hobgoblin Cutthroats [128 pts]
(Hand weapons, Shortbows, Boss (champion), Standard bearer, Musician)

This one has more CC punch but not everything shoots.

Last one is a hybrid list with some orcs but no chariot which was replaced by wolves.

++ Rare Units [78 pts] ++
5 Hobgoblin Wolf Riders [78 pts]
(Hand weapons, Cavalry spears, Light armour, Shields, Shortbow, Reserve Move (0-1 per 1000 points), Boss (champion))

No. Only applies to weapons.

Exactly. Chariot is a model with choppas rules. Like Armour Bane(2) from lammasu that works on a rider, lammasu and it’s breath weapon.

No, Impact Hits is not a weapon but a special rule. Choppas would also not work on Stomps or any other kind of hits/damage. Only those done with a weapon.

Right. There is extra line saying it works only on weapons!

I think id rather have a 5+ ward toughness 4 vs your t5 on the taurus.
Im seeing poisoned arrow goblins though

Interesting. This is very hard to balance. I can get a 40+ undead archers with poison or get in combat with S4 infantry.
