[TOW] Let's get competitive

You can take a Bigboss with GW and trollhides trousers. You can add a shield for +2 against shooting and +3 combat.

Otherwise boar works too with trollhides for +2 and shooting & combat without shield.

Thats a 126 pts to 135 pts package. Quite decent as you need the character tax anyway.

I like to always take a wizard in my lists even a level 1 just for dispel and magic missile turret.

Do you ever run him on the Wyvern? Assuming you’d run it the same way with trollhide and GW possibly an enchanted shield for a ward save if the TOP is being used on another character

Hi folks,

haven’t chimed in for a while, been playing Wild Herd for most of this year. But now Chorfs are back on the menu!

I will attend a 2000 pts, 5 rounds tournament in about 3 weeks and could need some advice since I’m, as ever, torn^^.

Since the tournament gives you 150 pts extra each game for bringing a fully painted army, I will only play painted minis. Still a few days to paint and I dunno what to go for.

So far I came up with some lists and would like to hear your feedback:

And ofc some many variations in between o.O

I have currently painted enough IG, 30 hobos hws, 21 sneaky gitz, 20 hobos with bows, 1 1/2 Iron Demons, 1 Lammasu, 1 Bale Taurus, 1 BO on Wyvern, 1 BO on pig, 1 1/2 deathshrieker, 20 mounted hobos.

Have assembled and based 20 Ironsworn and 20 Blorcs, 30 more Hobos hws, 1 Dreadquake and 1 Hellcannon, 1 more Lammasu. Don’t want to stress out too much painting the next days since time is a finite ressource.

They are. My answer is either drop them or take 4 or 3+Tauruk. This hero is great.

Every time I take BOs I feel they are a trap. Best targets for them just go around them and ignore them. Sadly. That is why I like flying dwarfs better. With lore familiar and 20 guys with glaives You can fly and give them +1,+1S and extra AP, making them A2, S6 guys!

So you use the glaive to apply some pressure at distance with Glaive + fly. Then engage with Daemonic vessels and Glaive ? That makes 2 attacks S6 AP 2. But are you able to pull this off with a deamonsmith, don’t you need a Sorcerer Prophet ?

How are flying dwarfs better suited to catch ennemies rather than Black orcs ? What prevents you for applying the same strategies with Black orcs ? (Aside from highly mobile factions like Wood elves of course)

I am a blunderbuss guy since 1994 BUT I see how flaive can be a very good choice here. You can drop Razer Banner (I use on BBses) and take something that works better with glaives. War banner or Ashen banner.

I take daemonsmith with power scroll. Lvl 3 can take more scrolls and You can add some assilement to the mix.

Fly(12) is after charges so it is easier for me to fly in a position (flank, rear or sometimes in front), shoot and them stand and shoot. Black Orcs can do the same except for shooting. But You can do that! For sure. Just Your hero will be attached in a wierd way due to his smaller base. And they will be speed 3 so furious charge will be hard to pull of (it always is).

As always thank you for the sharp answers !

I will have a chance to testmy flying infantry list in an upcoming 2k game against HEs. Star dragon, 2 huge infantry blocks and some sisters. 2 skycutters and balista.

I woner if shooting a dragon with blunderbusses is a good idea. With 20 shots …. hmm…

I’ve done the same with IS + Lammasu’s beard and a lvl 3 but I just plop them right in front of the enemy making them impossible to ignore they can take an absolute beating and not move

I run 18 of them with GW and shield (+ banner) which is a whopping 480+ points so it’s a bit of an investment but it’s points I feel like I won’t be giving up by the end of the same 2 attacks each without being buffed and a 2+ 6++ save if they parry and wait for the rest of your army to collapse on the target feels so nice

Sorry bit as far as I know parry doesn’t work up to 2+. It’s capped at a 3+ save.

Oh damn you’re spot on - I got that mixed up with max armour value, cheers!

I was thinking IF I need BSB in this unit. Or IG unit. Extra 160+ points gives some ward and +1 CR and 3 attacks… I was thinking IF a castellan on foot would not be a better choice!

Fly allows for target sellection. So BSB is not needed. In theory.

Best advice on how to deal with Star dragon with 3x5+ save? Is there even a reason to shoot it with balista and blunderbussess or should I just ignore it and shoot huge infantry blocks with all my 5 DSR, ID and balista?

Yeah I’d say kill everything else and keep your army tight so he can’t pick on isolated units. Once he has committed to combat, get a large unit with high static CR into the mix, challenge him out, win combat, break, overrun, dring your opponent’s tears.

Tight, ok. I have 5 artillry pieces so I will have to deploy left or right from those to keep LOS live.
I plan to target his 500+ point 41 elf strong Seaguard unit with everything I have.

2 ID should also help. Would you keep those 2 next to each other or on IG flanks? I expect a dragon to charge ID or something like that…

He has:

Star dragon with 3x 5+,

Prince with regen to go into Seaguard or swordsmasters

lvl 1 mage with lore familiar and Battle Magic (I guess for re-rolling 1’s)

41 Seaguard
18 Swordsmasters

12 Sisters

2 skycutters

1 bolt thrower

CD:

lvl 2 with daemonology and Lore Familiar and power scroll

lvl 1 with dark magic for easier to cast template magic missle

20 IG with blunderbusses and razer banner and hellshard

2x 19 CT (one boss)

3 bolt throwers

2 DSR

2 ID

11 sneaky gits

5 wolfriders with feight flight

Yeah that’s a lot of shooting, re-roll 1’s seems likely.

I mean deployment also always depends on terrain and such. But maybe one on each flank?

Potential problem could be that your IG doesn’t have that much static CR, so there’s a high risk you actually don’t break him. I mean what is he going to do with his Dragon? He’ll not kill an ID on the charge, so that will just enter a grind. Charging your IG is “risky” with static CR and stand and shoot. He can mop up the DSR’s and Bolt Throwers and of course combi charge.

I think is flying(12) a good move in this game.

I guess he will wait with it and then clean the board from what is left after his intantry get into combat…? But I think I have better infantry even if outnumbered. I can imagine flying 12 and shooting, then taking a charge from infantry. With stand and shoot.

I also think I should take him flying chariots out before they hit my war machines. Not sure if I can defens them all from a dragon… Or maby I should split them ?

We play Upon a field of glory, with 4 strategic locations, domination AND baggage train.
