Another amazing entry! Great job, love seeing all of these!
Those ranks were giving me so much joy!! Well done all around!
So I painted a cd tank as a thank you to zanko for his generosity. I went through all his blogs looking for what he was missing…the answer …not a lot! Haha I decided on an old school boar chariot crewed by cds but then zanko posted 3 at once in his blog so hastily refocused on tanks.
The 1st attempt was this one. Tanko de Zanko mk1
I went through 1 of zankos blogs and decided on painting it green to fit in the best, got a bit drunk and woke up to purple and blue…oh well!
It took me a whole evening to cut a section out of the turret. Sadly this got lost in the post many many months ago.
So I had to come up with a replacement. I couldn’t face cutting another turret up again so had to do something different mk2.
This one made it thankfully. My phone is getting full at this point so I wanted to post these before I lose them forever. I need to do a steam tank for myself at some point. Maybe I’ll wait for a suitable competition or maybe not …haha
These are absolutely epic ! Top notch!!!
Mate, those are awesome.
Both tanks are very well painted, and the turret conversion is great. You should definitely build and paint more! A steam tank/iron daemon contest will likely come around again at some point.
Somehow, amongst the wealth of stuff you’re completing to a high standard. This boar rider is just hands down my favorite. MOAR BOARS!
@Zoddtheimmortal your color scheme… I’ve said it before… its just so pretty. You know, I’d love to see a LOA model or LKM model painted by you in this style…
Thanks for the compliments guys. Much appreciated. Reaper I do plan to paint a unit of boar riders and some pony knights at some point, I just keep getting distracted. When painting the macrocosm mortar I was concerned I had pushed the colours too far but I’m pleased with it. Im not particularly happy with how I painted the skull helmet on the chaos dwarf. It seems I find skulls/ horns hard to paint, maybe I’m adding shading where there shouldn’t be any…idk
They are so lovely! What models are the first mortar? I never seen those
Classic 3rd ed mortar is by far my least fav warmachine of that range, the dwarfs were great, but the mortar looks like a leprechaun pot, this version fits much better imo
Well done!!
Thank you
The 1st mortar is from macrocosm. Its £10. All their dark dwarf stuff is great, fills out my limited 3rd ed stuff nicely
So I played my 1st ever game with my chaos dwarves…18 months in the making! I played against some big scary orcs. We used ravening hordes with 8th edition rules
I took 2 units of blunderbusses ,2 units of warriors, a unit of centaurs led by a centaur hero, a sorcerer Lord with death magic, a unit of hobgoblins, a hobgoblin hero, 2 bolt throwers, death rocket, earth shaker.
After the orcs had marched forward, my cds stood their ground. My sorcerer cast purple sun at the snotlings, trolls and both his shamans…all 6 of his trolls turned to purple crystal as well as a shaman. The earth shaker and death rocket hit the black orcs really hard…hashut blessed my dice beyond my great hopes, meanwhile my chaos goblin(hobgoblin hero) butchered the spider riders.
Glorious! What a beautiful sight. Very nice
This early decimation of his hardest units forced the orcs to try and hit back fast, Marching forward to close the distance to my cds.
My warriors with the sorcerer charged the savage orcs while the hobbos charged in the flank. It was brutal…the savage orcs fled to fast they ran into the purple sun evidently attracted to the beautiful purple light.
The centaurs got the charge on the boarboyz and ran them down and pursued into the night goblins. The artillery and blunderbusses took aim at the orcs weakening the unit. The rallied orc general and his few remaining blacks tried to get back into the fight. The savage orcs also rallied. The orc shaman survived another blast from the random moving purple
sun.
His orc chariot hit back at the blunderbusses but was unable to break them
The larger unit of warriors charged and killed the orcs with help from the centaurs. In return the orc general and black orcs charged the cds in the flank killing quite a few but lack the numbers to win the fight and fled and got run down.
The savage orcs charged and mauled my hobbos but out of character held firm.
The battle was over, the last of the orcs were captured as slaves.
The battle was rough on my opponent with the purple sun deciding the game early on. If I had known I could have lost my sorcerer with a misfire I’d maybe not have cast it…
Those ’ 6’ spells are too powerful. I don’t know how I could have dealt with the trolls without the spell. I rolled amazing dice all game too.
It was great to finally play a game, hopefully the next one will be closer.
Looks like great fun, thanks for sharing.
Great stuff! So good to them being used in game!
What’s the verdict on ravening hordes in 8th???
The list works ok and allows a ‘legal’ army in an abandoned game.
Move and fire on the blunderbusses is good so you can wreck large units. Useless against multi wound things though.
The earthshaker is a must have to slow down the enemies most dangerous units.
Standard cds with great weapons are just plain good!
Most of the troops are slightly cheaper, allowing for a bigger army. The magic phase is safer for the sorcerer too.
With all the monsters, warmachines, different chaos dwarf units that were built with wap in mind, ravening hordes is pretty dull. Against newer books of warriors of chaos, daemons, ogres I could see a real struggle ahead with ravening hordes.
It was just great to play
I present my Dark halflings, able assistants in my chaos dwarf army. More trustworthy than hobbos and better cooks. Subjugated into service but have a loftier position than the hobgoblin servants (doesnt go down well). The dark halflings hunt, patrol and cook for their chaos dwarf masters, in return they are not (often) eaten.
They are lead by the sinister Darkling who has been favoured by the chaos gods for his ability in battle.
The darkling facing off against a hobgoblin big boss.
2 hand weapons and a potion of strength
makes him pretty scary for a turn (favour of the gods). He looks like he is beseeching the gods for favour.
Now that’s a brilliant idea! Dark Halflings!
You made my day!
Cheers man, its an idea that i hope catches on…

Halflings mostly live underground. Maybe an expelled tribe many years ago grew to prominence in northerly regions and were encountered by some forward thinking chaos dwarfs
