* Site suggestions should be made here.

* Any questions about forum rules should be directed towards one of the Staff.

Forum Rules:

Please take time to read the following and observe them, continual failure to do so might involve warnings being issued by the Staff.

* Be polite to others, flaming, rudeness, swearing, SHOUTING and causing nuisance or offense is not tolerated. Obscenity, derogatory terms and racial abuse will also not be tolerated. This applies to people’s avatars too.

* Advertising or trading of any miniatures is only allowed in The Market Place. Advertising for anything other than wargaming miniatures or wargame hobby related products will result in the threads being locked.

* Single Ebay links are allowed (it’s up to the individual whether they choose to buy anything), but not relentless advertising of Ebay shops.

* Please respect the Staff and your fellow members by only posting in English so we can all understand.

* Spam of any kind is not tolerated. If it’s your first post and its spam we will assume you are a spam bot and your account will be locked/ deleted. If you feel hard done by just re-register and make your first few posts things that could not be taken as spam.

* Advertising the copying or mould making of original models (for the purposes of mass production) would be in breach of somebody’s Intellectual Property Rights and/ or Copyrights and so is not advised. Any such threads may be locked or deleted.

* If you see a post you wish to report for offensive or inappropriate content, use the Report Post button:

Signatures and Avatars:

* Signatures and Avatars may not contain offensive words or images.

* Animated GIF’s in signatures are not permitted.

Forum Etiquette:

The CDO Forum is a place where people can relax and chat about all things Chaos Dwarf. There are several things members can to do try and keep the forum running smoothly.

* If a topic has not had any replies for at least a month then let it slowly slide down the page. Generally it’s not a good idea to dredge up old topics unless you have something new to add.

* Resist the urge to flame! If you feel a topic has escalated to the point of continuing arguments to no happy end then don’t keep arguing! Try and get the thread back on topic or ignore it. Persistent arguing to no useful end will probably result in the thread being locked anyway.

* Don’t use excessive txt spk or other shorthand ways of writing. It’s hard to read and is completely unnecessary.

* Use punctuation.

* Avoid making the vast majority of your posts one-liners, especially the sort that add very little constructively. Continually doing this will probably get you banned.

Using your Account:

You can access your account by going to User CP on the main list at the top. Here you can change your settings and your public avatar/ signature.

Please be advised that Chaos Dwarfs Online will not accept any responsibility for any kind of losses or grievances associated with transaction(s) connected to this forum.

----------------------------

Slaves:

Everyone knows Chaos Dwarfs deal in slaves. Whether it is from Orc bosses, or Ogre Tyrant, if you want the services of a Chaos Dwarf you pay them with slaves!

I am happy to announce that CDO’s slave plugin is now working. The only people who can give out slaves are Admins and Mods. They will be able to reward people for good posts, good etiquette, for winning painting competitions, or anything else! Users will also gradually earn slaves for being members, you may not even know why! We have decided to keep it a mystery to reduce abuse. And look out! If you are caught being mean or nasty to fellow members, the staff may see fit to punish you by sacrificing your slaves!

It’s pretty simple, be a positive member of the community and you will earn slaves, be a negative member of the community and you will lose slaves. Slaves are good for bragging rights, as well as a sense of accomplishment! Once you earn your own slaves you can donate them to other users, or even pay users to make you things (like avatars!).

How to Donate Slaves To Other Members:

A person has a number that corresponds to their slave total over to the left under their avatar. That number also functions as a link. If you click on it then it will open the page where you can donate slaves.

…and you should see something like what is in the picture below:

In the top box you enter the number of slaves you wish to donate. In the bottom box you have the option of entering in a reason as to why the slaves are being donated. You then click on the ‘donate’ button and you’re done.

Stance of CDO on slavery:

In the wider context of the Warhammer world the Chaos Dwarfs are considered an evil race. They openly take slaves, sacrificing many to their dark god or working them to death in search of wealth. Slavery underpins the Chaos Dwarfs as a race, allowing their empire to function. Such things are written countless times and cannot be disputed.

As such, discussion of capturing/ sacrificing slaves should be taken in this context. It is assumed that members are acting ‘in character’ when referring to such things.

The Warhammer world is a fantasy world, and a dark one at that. Therefore members should not bring it out of context and argue about the moral issues surrounding slavery in the real world in any shape or form (historical or modern day).

If potential members are not prepared to accept this stance, they might want to consider carefully whether they join. There are more ‘virtuous’ armies out there, like High Elves or Dwarfs.

----------------------------

Medals:

We the admin team have decided that we need a way of recognizing the outstanding contributions of our members, and the reputation system just wasn’t good enough. So what did we do? Medals, that’s what!

There are several types of medals, which appear under a members avatar. I’ll quickly explain what they are and how to get them, here, so that you all know what people have done and how to gain them yourselves.

Golden, Silver and Brazen (or Bronze) Hats. These are achieved by placing first, second or third, respectively, in our painting competition, the Golden Hat. Gold can always be achieved and silver and bronze may only be won if there are 10 or more participants.

Golden, Silver and Brazen (or Bronze) Cogs. These are achieved by placing first, second or third, respectively, in our creative competition, the Artisan’s Contest. Gold can always be achieved and silver and bronze may only be won if there are 10 or more participants.

The Points of Army medals also come in three flavours: Gold, Silver and Bronze again. To obtain each one, you must have the requisite number of points made, painted and posted. It is generally easiest to collate a thread with this and include an army list, which must be legal using the most up to date rules for Chaos Dwarfs (some models may be used as unit fillers or proxy as others: e.g. Hellcannon counts as an Earthshaker). This makes it easier for staff to check, but they need to be notified and sent a link of where to find the army. Bronze is for 1,000 points, Silver is for 2,000 points and Gold is for 4,000 points.

The Image Gallery medal (the camera) comes in three varieties and shall possibly contain a fourth in the future. Gold, Silver and Bronze again. To get the Bronze, one must post 5 units within the Image Gallery section of the forum. Silver is 10 and Gold is 15. Any Chaos Dwarf unit or Hobgoblin unit counts for this as long as it is a new unit. All other unit types, only count once, no matter how many different units of it you post, but we still encourage people to do so.

The End of Year Awards, as the name implies, come about once a year at the end of each. This is the second year running and the medals are:

Best Attitude - Which member has been the best towards others and the website itself.

Best General - The member that has given the best advice and helped the most tactically.

Best Hobbyist - The best at performing the hobby side of Chaos Dwarfs, such as converting and/or painting etc.

Best Contributor - The member that has helped the Website and Chaos Dwarf cause the most, over the year.

Best Overall Member - Whoever you think has done the best job all round.

The staff may be nominated for these, but not for things within their duties, such as myself for running the Artisan’s Contest or for Willmark in upkeeping the website, but if you think cornixt has contributed most to the wiki, then he may be nominated. (Also of note, these awards are for the year that has just passed, not for overall work. Look at the dates of posts to see when the acts where performed)

The Showcase Medal, being given to user whom have their armies featured on the main CDO website.

The Wiki medal is awarded to those that have contributed large amounts to the wiki and is usually judged by the administration and moderation team, but suggestions are considered.

Contributors to the Word of Hashut Webzine will receive this medal!

The CDR medal, is a medal for making an “appearance” on the podcast, Chaos Dwarf Radio. Long time hosts and helpers of the Chaos Dwarf Radio Podcast will also receive this medal.

If you feel that someone is worthy of a medal, or you think that something else is worthy of a medal being given, send me a PM to make your nominations.

Casting and Mould Making @ CDO:

Seeing as how there are increasing numbers of us here on CDO taking the plunge and casting various bits, I thought it was time to re-clarify our stance.

Because of legal issues we cannot endorse or advertise the sale of models that either include cast parts, or are whole copies of copyrighted materials. This applies not only to GW models, but to all mini producers.

Any such threads that advertise the sale of, or requests of such models will be locked very quickly. If discussion arises within any thread on the sale of cast models (that infringe copyright/ IP) the posts may be edited and/ or have the threads locked. Persistent offenders will be warned.

What is acceptable:

  • Asking for information on, or links to casts of original models. This means models that have been produced without the casting of any copyright materials. Also includes asking for models sold with the right of production.

  • Asking how you would go about making moulds and/ or casting generally, as long as they are not with the specific intention of recasting copyright models for sale.

  • Casting of relatively small components FOR YOUR OWN USE that are not for sale. GW has always said in its IP/ legal section that unlike most companies they have to be a little more accepting in this regard. So as long as you don’t sell them (or advertise to) taking greenstuff mould relief?Ts or resin casts is fine.

What is not acceptable:
  • Selling or advertising the sale of models or moulds that are casts of anything YOU don’t own the Copyrights/ Intellectual Property rights to. This includes posting links to places that sell such models if they are not your own.

  • Although not nearly as strict as the one above, it would not be advisable to show how you recast your entire army (from models you don’t own the Copyrights/ Intellectual Property rights to) much as it may be fun, even if they’re not for sale. So if you plan to do such things, you shouldn’t really make a massive deal of it on the forums. Better to let people assume that you’ve just bought them really cheap

I hope you all understand that by stating this the Staff are not trying to be unduly mean, we are simply trying to protect ourselves from any unnecessary troubles in the future, especially as GW staff may browse here from time to time.

----------------------------

How To Use The Report Thread Function:

Since CDO was created I think there have only been about 7 people who have used this function of the forum so far, and it is a valuable tool for people to help bring the attention of the Staff to anything that is concerning them.

Where is this button?

The button is located at the bottom right of each and every post. When you click on it a message box pops up asking you to give a reason for reporting the post.

What if I don’t want to give a reason?

I understand that on some threads people want to stay well clear publicly of trouble, this is perfectly understandable. But if you are concerned about something you have to contact the Staff, we aren’t psychic (much as it would be useful…). So if you want to stay quiet publicly, but contact us privately you can. We will keep your concerns strictly private.

If you don’t want to give an in depth reason why you want to report that post, that’s up to you, but in case it’s not entirely obvious what you are concerned about it would really help the Staff to know.

You have to type at least one character, so if you don’t want to give a reason just type ‘report’ or something.

Is it anonymous?

No, it’s not. So if you do this at least we know who to contact about something!

What should I use this function for?

We request that people use this function appropriately for the following:
  • Any threads or posts you believe are encouraging unnecessary arguing that is getting out of hand, or against a friendly community spirit.

  • A clear breach of any of the forum rules.

  • If you want a thread you’ve started to be moved or locked (so that you don’t contact a mod who happens to be away for a week). Sometimes if a thread you create is getting completely out of hand it may be worth just asking for it to be locked.

This gives us as Mods a heads up on threads to keep an eye on, a way to keep track of the number of people concerned about something and if there are any common problems. With the massive number of posts each month, and CDO rapidly expanding this would be a big help to the staff.

What should I not use this function for?

  • Posts that are only mildly insulting or controversial. We have to be realistic about this, these things just happen on a forum, and to thought police our members to a ridiculous extent would help nobody. If people take great offence, or are posting in a way that is actually breaching a forum rule (like trolling or flaming), then obviously this is worth reporting. So please decide whether something actually requires staff involvement before reporting.

  • Posts or threads that are going off topic. Asking a thread to be made on topic is not something we as Staff should have to do. We may feel we should, but people are equally capable of doing this themselves. If it is spamming or in the wrong section then report it.

  • Reporting members for inappropriate use of the pm system. Contact a Staff member directly.

  • Contacting staff generally, not really related to any particular post. Contact a Staff member directly.

What will the Staff do?

Whoever spots the reported post will have to use their discretion about how best to deal with it. Sometimes this may mean they just reply appropriately in the thread. It may mean simply moving or locking a thread. If the situation requires it they may contact the reporter, or whoever posted the thing being reported.

So put simply, we will look at the posts you point us to, but we will always do what we believe is the most appropriate response, even if the reporter wouldn’t agree.

Please make use of this function. For the reasons stated it’s useful on so many levels.

----------------------------

What to use the Market Reputation system for:

The Market Rep of a user is located under a member’s Avatar pic.

This is only to be used for giving feedback on transactions you have had with that person; buying, selling or trading with them through the Market Place.

It is not to be used for giving feedback on whether you like or dislike that person. If you like something they’ve done you can donate a slave or two. If you dislike something they’ve said or their attitude etc either discuss with that member (perhaps privately), discuss it with staff, or if the situation demands it report a thread.

----------------------------

Thanks for your cooperation,

-The Staff

Hashut’s Blessing:

I will follow up on any and all of these rules. So, be good and have fun. (The two ARE possible at the same time!)

Lord Zarkov:

Surely this should be stickied?

Xander:

Yep. Stickies

Hashut’s Blessing:

Ah, my hand is stuck! But, pay attention to the rules. It’s better for everyone, trust me on this.

Warlord:

Could another rule be that people cannot have pictures in their signatures…

I know that you Xander have one in yours, however it does break up the text / conversation, and creates extra scrolling…

Just a thought - something that we over at W-E use to try and keep it all easy to read.

Xander:

I don’t like restricting people in that fashion. As long as no one abuses their sigs, there is no problem. Thread “height” for scrolling is mostly determined by the avatar size, look at Hashut’s Blessing’s post above. All white space, where an image could easily be.

Warlord:

I understand that there can be a lot of white space, especially in the example you outlined, however filling it with an image breaks up the text. The white space serves a purpose in regards to showing where the text is, and where the text isn’t. Having one line of text and then an image afterwards, it can be easy to miss that one line.

A lot of the Avatars on this site are quite large, and appear to be specially made for the site… which I think is very characterful, and I think that is where people can express themselves in image form.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not telling you how to run the site, I am more just listing my own preferences. Whatever the vast majority of members decide is what will go, and I just hope a lot of others also have my preference.

Anyway, sorry if my suggestion felt confrontational…

Xander:

Not at all. We welcome suggestions.

I really don’t share this whole “breaks up the text” philosophy. I have heard others speak about it. One guy on TWF refused to even look at the forum after seeing an image in a sig. So if I sounded confrontational in my reply, it was probably thanks to that guy.

There are lots of buttons already below each post. And with written Sigs, the “text” is still broken up, so I don’t really see the difference between sigs with images, and sigs with words. All the info in one post is in the clearly defined and visible table. I’ve seen written sigs that fill way more space, and are a lot uglier than image sigs.

This is the reason I don’t like to make strong restrictions of this sort. As long as everyone is reasonable, then there is no reason to disallow creativity in sigs. I usually use Avatars as a way of Identifying people. Glancing at posts, I can see who posted without really reading their name. Ya, that sounds a bit weird, but some people are more visually focused.

Moderation is the key.

Hashut’s Blessing:

I remember on HoH, I has an image signature and that basically was instead of an avatar for me. Just the way things are. Can you not do remove sigs/remove banners/pcitures from sigs in the User CP?

P.S. Mr. Xander, I am going to add LZ to your moderators list.

Xander:

Yes, I am pretty sure you can disable sigs/avatars in your user cp.

Thanks HB.

Hashut’s Blessing:

No problemo. Thought he deserves to be there, he he he. And, if the signatures DO bother anyone, take a look at the CP and let us know on here (unfortunately, I am late for work and can’t right now, chances are, forgetting later.).

The Flying Beaver:

We the admin team have decided that we need a way of recognizing the outstanding contributions of our members, and the reputation system just wasn’t good enough. So what did we do? Medals, that’s what!

As of right now, we have five medals which can be won. These will go in your profile, right underneath where it says your reputation.

The Golden Hat, which will go to winners of our painting contests.

The Wiki Award, which will be presented to whoever is deemed to have made significant contributions to our wiki.

The Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, which are given to members who have collected, painted and subsequently posted pictures of Chaos Dwarf armies totaling 1000 points, 2000 points and 4000 points respectively.

The Showcase Medal, being given to user whom have their armies featured on the main CDO website.

If you feel that someone is worthy of a medal, or you think that something else is worthy of a medal being given, send me a PM to make your nominations.

torn:

this is really cool

id suggest silver and bronze hats too

i suppose ill never get a wiki award cos i dot have free time to do it, but my 1000pt army might be ready by september, and 2000 by xmas is very possible!

Hashut’s Blessing:

Silver is possible, bronze would make medals too common. We’re trying to make them worthwhile (as in rare, but not too difficult to get). The medals came out well!

wallacer:

Cool Initiative.

I’ve nearly finished painting my CD, so i’ll have to whip out the old digital camera I guess…

Xander:

I think we are sticking to Just Gold for now. There really aren’t enough entries to warrant other medals for Golden Hat.

Let’s see those army photos!

hobblin:

Withe metal being awarded I’ll post things.

Xander or any other admins will their be anothe Golden hat contest any time soon.

Ishkur Cinderhat:

That is quite a nice idea! And certainly another good motivation to finish those 1-2k points worth of big-hats anytime soon.

Ellimist:

Xander or any other admins will their be anothe Golden hat contest any time soon.
The 3rd Golden hat is currently beginning discussion. Expect it to be a bit different to the previous 2.
