Creating the gaming room of my dreams! (Hopefully)

I have a garage door on my workshop shed. It has so many planks and junk leaning up against it that it hasn’t been opened in 12 years

Insulation going up! (And not a moment too soon - it’s just started to get cold where I live!)

Makes a big difference already!

Just to repeat the comments on moisture content - the downside with producing a watertight room is that there is no way for the water to leave!
A dehumidifier and vents will do the job in a concrete shell, if you don’t have any windows that can be opened (or don’t want to in midwinter). Might be worth getting a heater too, for your own comfort and the buildings.

This looks great though and I look forward to seeing what a civilised gaming space you can create for yourself.
And like you said at the start - better to take it slow and do it right. Chaos Dwarf craftsmanship at its best.

I’ve got an oil heater for it and will be installing two vents @badmoongrin - very afraid of 1) moisture and 2) behind cold when gaming!!!

And yes slow and steady as a chaos dwarf daemonsmith

Another update. I think I may have just finished the roof!

We haven’t had any leaks for a while now so just hit it up with a final coat of waterproof roof paint. Fingers crossed it will be okay. I won’t start making a ceiling until after our next big downpour of rain - I need to be 100% sure.

Haha, is that plumbing on the outside? You crazy people… :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t mock the British - we can’t help being a bit backwards when it comes to these things.
In effect this is a Victorian problem when England went through a massive building project (typ Miljonprojekt) with no building standard regulations.

My town is only 70 years old. Was built to rehouse folks from east London after the blitz in ww2. So any crazy abnormalities in building standards around here is more due to being in a town with a population of 185,000 that was built in less than five years haha.

The houses are sturdy and well built but not a single straight wall in sight haha. Also lots of things you’d want hidden are on show as they were built to be functional but not always pretty.

That’s nice shot of the insulation, reminds me of Tetris

I’m sure you won’t have to wait too long for a huge downpour :unamused::grin: it’s how we roll after all

One wall insulated; a second one starting! Really feel like it’s starting to take shape :test2:

Good going! You’re making fine progress. :test:

And that plumbing on the outside inspires for some grimdark ideas… Crazy stuff nevertheless haha.

The guys were warning you about mould and stuff if you havent got 2 vents. I stored some kitcchen chairs in my boiler room/outhouse and they all went mouldy. I have a vent for the boiler but no other holes, all the interior skimming is cracking and falling off too. The builder said i had to repaint the walls with pva as water was getting in but the walls are bone dry. Maybe its that there is no air flow and moisture cant escape. No windows and a proper house door on.maybe i need a cat flap even with no cat…

Great work on your pad, soon as you get your beer fridge in there itll be your home awsy from home (refuge from wife and kids if you have em!)

I have both Zod…both :joy:

I would guess that a reason you get moist in the walls is cause hot air can cary more water g/m3 than cold air. As the walls get cooler towards the outside the air can carry less and less until it condense inside the wall. Hence you use a plastic shield in houses, inside the insulation to stop the hot air getting into the wall. That or you put the extra insulation on the outside, keeping the walls hot enough at all time and then the temp drops in the insulation on the out side which can get rid of any condensation. Since insulation isn’t organic it wound mould. Mould need “heat”, moist and organic material.

Any you will of course need ventilation as well…

The battle of waterproofing the roof continued all over Christmas. We had quite a lot of rain. It came through. I was like that old bugs bunny cartoon where he puts a toe in one hole and it sprays in his face so he plugs another with his ear and then his finger etc. Suffice to say it was a battle I was losing.

Well I’ve done what chaos dwarfs do best. I’ve rounded up some hobgoblins to do it for me.

Roofers are around today fixing a new roof on the garage with a 5 year guarantee to be water proof. After this work can finally continue.

The delays has meant that gaming has been impossible here for about 4 months. But Covid restrictions has meant that it has been impossible for about ten months so it doesn’t really matter!

Managed to take a pic without the hobgoblins in it. Will share better photos when they are back in their cages.

It will be loud when it rains but hopefully very waterproof! Good luck!

Yes I did consider this @MichaelX. It’s actually a sound I don’t mind too much. My mates will have to learn to like it too I guess haha

I like it too, especially if it keeps me dry
