Glad to hear you’re making progress! This build is an inspiration to all of us who dream of our own gaming space.
Also…we’ve had mad rain this week.
Dry as bone inside the garage
Very nice, it passed the test! :25:
Okay it’s been over a week and no rain has got through so I feel confident to begin the next steps.
Today I started the very slow job of cleaning the floor in preparation for a coat of some waterproof floor coating (which will eventually have carpet or something laid on top of it). It took ages because we’d been cutting wood and insulation inside and the sawdust and bits of plastic were EVERYWHERE.
Before cleaning up:
After:
After that next steps are:
-
install new lights. Getting little spotlights in the ceiling.
-
insulate the ceiling (I’ve got lots of the foam stuff left for that )
-
install drywall walls and ceiling to cover insulation.
-
plaster walls.
-
paint walls.
-
install some kind of flooring.
-
set up gaming table and beer fridge.
-
wait for Covid to sod off
-
invite mates over for games
-
never leave…
Step 9… I miss step 9…
It’s not exciting but it’s important- started the floor tonight. I mixed a small amount of the floor stuff for this. Just cutting in the edges first. Will wait until the weekend to do the “big pour” for the large part floor.
That’s gonna be scary. This stuff is good but is like a resin you mix in two parts. It has a ridiculously short working life so you’ve gotta get it down quick.
Can’t do it in parts? Probably cleaner to do it in one pour, but maybe you can do a continues pour/mix rotation where one person mixes a batch ant another pours?
Anyways, good luck!
Doing it in two parts. I can’t remove everything from the garage as there’s nowhere else to put it (some large shelving units with models in them etc. So I’ve moved everything to the right and will do the floor on the left. Once it’s cured move the stuff over and do that side.
One pour is what pros would do and would make a much more even and better looking finish. But 1) I’m no pro and 2) it’s gonna be covered anyway. It’s there for waterproofing more than aesthetics.
Honestly all these waterproofing steps…if there’s a biblical flood and you see me float by in my garage with two of every type of miniature don’t be surprised.
Haha so basically you are making a modern version of Noah’s ark, for miniatures…
The way 2020 went and 2021 is going thats a solid idea…
Good luck! I wish you the very dryest hobby shack this year!
Well the roof didn’t leak…the wall did though…
Oh this waterproof situation stopped being fun a long time ago…
Aaaargh, damn that sucks. What’s the next move, how do you keep it out?
What’s the opposite of a rain dance? Whatever it is I just do that haha
It’s going to be a case of me sealing the wall on the outside and inside better than I have. I thought I’d done an okay job but alas
Keeps me busy @Jasko - I’d hate to have to be bored
A drought sit?
Oh man, that sucks…
My fault for making this highly blasphemous joke I’m putting it down to divine retribution haha.
It’s all fixable. Just another example of two steps forward and one step back
Divine retribution? But Hashut’s the god of fire, not water.
I’ve got a theory that the water is getting in from one corner of the outside of the building where the guttering finishes and drops down. There was a big puddle there. It’s then finding its way through the weak points and seeping out onto the floor. This is obviously only a theory haha
So I just dried up that puddle using my partners least favourite towels and filled it in, adding waterproofing stuff to the edges where I could see cracks.
Will it work? Who bloody knows hahah
Well… if @Oxymandias creates a big enough fire in his to be hobby room I’ll bet hashut will keep it dry… but yeah… gaming might be difficult
I think you need to sit in it next big storm and see
Probably not wrong mate. Good shout @Zoddtheimmortal
