Discord spam, ban how do we do it?

Right, since the poll is overwhelmingly pro some sort of ban i’m creating a new post to discuss how and exactly what were banning.

This is my suggestion, but again… lets talk about it.

  • No nsfw stuff
  • No spamming channels, regardless of what you are spamming, without proper context. This means it’s ok to send a picture of a wooden spoon if the conversation is about last position on a golden hat. Its not ok to spam channels with wooden spoon pictures for no other reason than spamming them. Replace wooden spoon with any topic.
  • Violations will be deleted and the user will be warned via personal message
  • 3 warnings will result in being muted for x amount of time
  • After a 3rd warning there will be a ban from the server

I’m a very strong supporter of this in particular. Most of my downtime comes at work due to the nature of my job, so when I’m active, my boss or a coworker could always walk by. Our chat is fine, but NSFW images or sounds would have a tangible effect on me IRL.

honesty? I think this is a good move. Tolerance is important, but not at the expense of the community as a whole. As we’ve all generally stated, there are places and times for that stuff. The Darklands is no place for slaaneshi marked beastmen. Weve got ton and tons and tons of lurkers, and thats fine. Weve a few rats even, and thats ok too i spose. When it comes to fetishation and explicit content, its generally not welcome.

Bravi all, totally agree :spoon:

I am shocked over this discussion at all and I felt very weirded out by the pictures when i first joined the discord, kinda got used to it and its not as frequent anymore. Nsfw shouldn’t be allowed anywhere related to this hobby as a standard.

This all sounds good to me, with the caveat that @denelian5 can spam his luthier work anytime

Also missing an explicit furry shit ban

I figured general spam would be better. Wording could be altered to something like "offtopic spam, like furry,… … … "

Thats not spam, and its positively received

I second @Ihsan997 - I work in schools and check CDO at lunch times and break

Eh, there’s no context beyond that provided by the man himself right? I’d just as soon make it a specific furry/nsfw ban and say we reserve the right to ban for other things as necessary. I want to see what people are doing in their lives and don’t want to be bothered arguing over what constitutes ‘context’.

@MichaelX - at the moment discord follows discourse rules. This would be a rule proposal for discord only. However , even though it isnt an issue on this platform, id suggest we add the rule we decide upon (I’m happy with the above proposal) to our main forum rules for both platforms.

I think having the rules be the same means we can point in one place to show them all and keeps expectations consistent.

Eventhou it isnt needed for the forum… it doesnt hurt to add it here too

Thats actually true.

Id like to be as generic as possible but not have people fear sharing stuff every now and then

Maybe split them up.

No nsfw
No furry
No spam

But then with more words

This is very important. CDO spans all platforms of the multiverse and transcends boundaries.

But where will I go for my weird rat-porn during lunch break at work?! I’m more or less malnourished as is!

Preferably a rat porn discord… or any of the many other infested discord servers out there!

  • No nsfw stuff!
  • No spamming channels, regardless of what you are spamming, without proper context. You are free to share other hobbies you have, as long as they don’t break any of the other rules. Use common sense here, and do not overshare! Violations will be deleted and the user will be warned via personal message. 3 warnings will result in being muted for x amount of time. After a 3rd warning any infractions will result in a ban from the server.
  • No furry stuff!

Final chance to add or change stuff folks… by the weekend i will make this final and add it to the official rules!

I don’t think this needs changing. It just needs the mods to be willing to engage with our fearless autistes from a position both resolute and compassionate

I have remained neutral so far because I do not use the Discord frequently enough that I am bothered by the furry spam. I can sympathize with your reasons to ban this type of content over there but I am absolutely not a fan of fanatically synchronizing the forum with the Discord rules. This problem simply does not exist here and changing the rules here would create entirely new problems (e.g. some works of our members are not strictly sfw – no-one has ever complained about that but the new rules would dictate to remove this content – not cool).

Besides

There also exist technical features in forum software that do not exist in Discord… no reason to outright ban stuff if it requires user-intervention to open

Or at least be more honest and condense above rules to simply “no furry stuff” – the whole argumentation arc above concerning nsfw seems to come down to “I don’t want my coworkers see me scrolling through furry stuff”.
