Golden Hat XLVI: Characters and Heroes

“It takes a commanding presence to be a leader of legions…
and a big hat…”

@chitzkoi, @Reaver, @PawocK, and @Stumpy Present: The 46th Golden Hat competition on Chaos Dwarfs Online!

Onward we march, into the next installment of our special contest series aimed at filling your dusty shelves with fully painted Chaos Dwarf armies.

Prizes!

The Golden Hat winner will receive a unit of fabzulous metal :sign_of_the_horns::hat: BOGWYRM blunderbusses donated by @chitzkoi

The silver winner will receive a unit of Maxmini Goblin Knives (sneaky gits) courtesy of @Reaver

The bronze winner will receive a physical model of this Highlands Sorcerer Prophet, donated by @PawocK

and lastly, one unlucky random participant will receive one of these two SPOONS OF CALAMITOUS INTENT, hand forged by a comrade of our very own @Stumpy. May the odds be never in your favor.

Subject Matter: Characters and Heroes

The infantry has marched at the vanguard, followed by a host of war machines. It is time for the tyrannic generals of the Dark Lands to take to the battlefield.

The focus of this contest is to paint your characters and/or heroes for a Chaos Dwarf army. Every army needs a general to lead them into battle! You may enter as characters and heroes as you can finish by the deadline! This could include unit champions you’ve given a flavorfully tall hat.

Entries can be intended for any game system featuring Chaos Dwarfs: Age of Sigmar, Old World, Warhammer Fantasy, WAP, Kings of War, Mordheim, etc. Hashut knows many of your nuhats will be used for Warhammer 40k proxies, so feel free to enter your spicy battery abusing Iron Warriors despotic warpsmith or Dark Mechcrapinacan tech priest so long as he be short, bearded, angry, and ideally wearing a large hat. The goal of this series of contests is to get as many Chaos Dwarf related armies to the table as we can.

Our backstabbing “friends” the hobgoblins are of course always welcome (so long as they present their knives before approaching). Every horde of chaff needs a Khan. Or perhaps the green skinned folk only serve as attendants or palanquin bearers for your lord. To that end, models may be mounted or on foot, opening up the door to larger hobby endeavors should you wish to take on a more bullish challenge. Note this presents some overlap with the future contest on monsters so plan ahead accordingly.

There are plenty of inspiring creations posted in our image galleries for Chaos Dwarf Mounted and unmounted characters. As per usual we hope to farm all of you painters for more image gallery content to feed Hashut’s infernal algorithm so wayward internet cruisers can enjoy our forum for more than just streaking grime tutorials and decades old MS paint resources (our most clicked topics of the past year).

If you are unsure if your entry will fit the subject matter, please contact @Reaver and he’ll sort it out with the rest of the Staff.

Basing is unrestricted and up to your discretion. You may include plinths and display bases/dioramas if you want. You may include fancy backgrounds. We want to encourage the creation of beautiful models and scenes, not hamper it although the focus of the voting should be on the painted model(s).

Specifics:
Subject: Characters and Heroes
Bases: Up to your discretion.
The Due Date: 11:59 PM October the 1st 2026 EST (Eastern Time Zone)

Please read the full rules that apply to the Golden Hat competition before submitting your entry.

Submission:

All entries must be sent to the @GoldenHat account no later than the due date. (Entrants have approximately 11 weeks to complete entries). If for some reason you are having trouble with your submission, contact @Reaver since the @GoldenHat account has limited monitoring. In order to avoid problems, entrants should not wait until the last minute to submit their entries.

How to Enter:

Submissions should include up to 4 pictures of your miniature creation. Upload and send your entry images with this forum’s direct upload function in a PM to @GoldenHat (a special user that all Staff have access to).

If you win:

  • Walk across the backs of the cowed masses you have scorned and pushed aside, in order to take your place at the top in the vaunted Golden Hat Gallery .
  • Receive the Golden Hat medal for your online persona.
  • Win prizes! See above for details.

Keep your head on your shoulders generals, and a hat on your head!

Once all entries are received a thread will be created for voting and determining the winners!

If there are any questions it is best to post them here so that everyone can benefit from any details or clarifications that may arise.

Good luck everyone!

The Staff

For what it’s worth, the random draw does exclude those already taking home a prize. Do with that information what you will.

Im in just for the chance at the spoons. I’ll frame them and put them in the back of the cabinet, with a tag “May you have a Chorfy day!” or some equally corny phrase. It’s just too good to not give a go for. :joy: My grandmother, now long past - may she rest in peace - would be so proud if I won. She collected spoons, but I know she didn’t have a Chorf spoon. It’d be a proper dedication to her memory if we, by Hashut’s will, got it. Hell, the damn things should be gilded!

God I hope I have enough free time to finally participate in one of these.
